Actress Rhea Chakraborty, known for her role in Mere Dad Ki Maruti, once again found herself under scrutiny due to allegations of involvement in a scam. As reported by Hindustan Times, along with celebrities like comedian Bharti Singh and YouTuber Elvish Yadav, Chakraborty was questioned for her connection to the HiBox mobile app. This action was taken after law enforcement received numerous complaints from individuals who claimed they had been defrauded by an app they had invested their money into. It appears that users were encouraged to invest in the app after viewing promotional videos featuring their favorite social media influencers and YouTubers.

The HIBOX mobile app, endorsed by notable figures, allegedly attracted thousands by offering high investment returns. According to The Hindu, quoting Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari, the app was part of a carefully planned scheme. The accused promised daily returns ranging from 1% to 5%, which could amount to 30% to 90% in a month. Approximately 30,000 individuals invested in this app.

The app, introduced in February, had been generously rewarding its initial investors. Yet, since July, payments to them have been halted due to technical problems and legal complications. It was revealed that popular figures such as Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, Harsh Limbachiya, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, and the Rawat brothers (Amit and Dilraj) received legal notices. Furthermore, it was disclosed that the primary suspect, Sivaram, a Chennai resident, has been taken into custody, and approximately Rs 18 crores were confiscated from four of his bank accounts.
