Rings of Power Star Daniel Weyman Shares if The Stranger Could Be Gandalf

As a longtime Tolkien fan who’s seen more than my fair share of elves, dwarves, and hobbits, I can’t help but be captivated by the enigmatic presence of Daniel Weyman’s The Stranger in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. His performance is so intriguing that whispers of him potentially playing Gandalf have been echoing through Middle-earth, or at least my social circles.

Daniel Weyman can’t shake the character of Gandalf from his mind. That’s because ever since the British actor burst onto the scene as The Stranger in Prime Video’s mega-hit, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the buzz has been building that the character could very well be Gandalf himself, who was played by the venerable Ian McKellen in The Lord of the Rings films.

During a chat with MovieWeb regarding the upcoming second season set to premiere on August 29, Weyman hinted at the likelihood that he might embody the iconic character of Gandalf. He openly discussed this potential role in the interview, stating:

“I’m thoroughly enjoying the process of bringing this character to life since almost his inception in Middle-earth. It doesn’t particularly matter to me who he is, whether it’s Gandalf or not. I don’t feel like I’m favoring any specific direction for him. What truly excites me as an actor is how the writing places me in a current scenario filled with high stakes, frequently alongside Markella [Kavenagh] and Meghan [Richards], portraying Nori and Poppy. This, to me, is an absolute delight to play out.”

“Weyman expressed his gratitude for collaborating with Kavenagh and Richards during Season 2, stating it was one of the most enjoyable experiences in his career. However, he clarified that the production wasn’t all sunshine and butterflies. The actor, who has starred in Master of the Air, Foyle’s War, and Dunkirk, mentioned that the second season is quite demanding, and there was a significant amount of pressure to deliver.”

I sort of feel panic. There was a lot of heat for us in the second season.

In Season 2 of “The Rings of Power,” a story that unfolds thousands of years prior to J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” novels, there are several imaginative plots at play. Character Daniel Weyman’s character, The Stranger, embarks on an epic adventure alongside Harfoots Nori and Poppy into distant desert territories. It is in the Stoor Canyon where they encounter a new race, which showrunner Patrick McKay has verified shares ties with the Hobbits.

Simultaneously, striking developments unfold involving Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Charlie Vickers’ enigmatic character Sauron, who is said to be targeting the master blacksmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), aiming to deceive and control him. On another note, the grand dwarven kingdom of Khazad-dûm plunges into darkness, while the noble elf-soldier Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) is deeply engaged in solving a mystery that could significantly change his future. Additionally, an intense siege of Eregion promises to capture attention.

We’ll follow these creative flames right from their start to finish. Catch the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video starting August 29. Click the link below to watch!
