Generally speaking, when “rumor” and “Travis Kelce” appear together in a sentence, they often refer to his relationship with Taylor Swift, be it the ongoing chatter about their rumored breakup or future wedding plans. However, this time around, the gossip isn’t about Travis and Taylor; instead, it seems that both Travis and his brother Jason Kelce have developed a keen interest in a particular Rob Lowe movie featuring Chris Farley.
Here’s a hint… it’s not Wayne’s World.
How did the conversation lead to the Kelce Brothers and Rob Lowe? I just had a chat with Bo Derek for the 30th anniversary of Tommy Boy, and during our discussion about the lasting impact of the ’90s classic comedy, she mentioned a gossipy tidbit she picked up from Rob Lowe himself regarding the Super Bowl-winning siblings and his movie.
Have you heard a piece of trivia? I hadn’t until recently. I had a chance encounter with Rob Lowe a few months back, and he shared that the Kelce family loves a particular film so much that they gather to watch it together. Is this something you were aware of?
To put it simply, here’s what I didn’t know: The Kelce Brothers shared a fondness for the movie “Tommy Boy”. After checking further, I found a video from their “New Heights” podcast in March 2023. During this episode, they discussed an NFL coach photo and hilariously quoted “Tommy Boy” when talking about former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. You’ll want to listen to the end of the clip to fully appreciate it.
Additionally, I came across an article in the Wall Street Journal Magazine from November 2023 featuring Travis Kelce. Interestingly enough, it was revealed that at one point, this three-time Super Bowl winner had set his ringtone to Chris Farley exclaiming “For the love of GOD!” This leads me to speculate whether Taylor Swift is also a fan of the classic comedy ‘Tommy Boy’ and amusing quotes from the late Chris Farley. Here’s hoping that’s true!

Chris Farley’s physical humor in the movie “Tommy Boy” was excellent, but a scene where his character got hit directly in the face was uncomfortably realistic.
Initially, the comedy film “Tommy Boy” was on the verge of being scrapped. However, during this tense period, some children’s playful heckling resulted in one of the movie’s most memorable scenes.
In the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2” (scheduled for release in 2025), it’s likely that Travis Kelce will appear alongside Adam Sandler. This could signal a transition into more comedic roles for the Kansas City Chiefs tight end in the future. While I’m not advocating for a remake of “Tommy Boy,” I do believe that Kelce and Jason would make an excellent pair for a buddy comedy, given their impeccable comic timing. Notably, Kelce has hosted “Saturday Night Live” before, and with their shared NFL backgrounds, they’d be well-equipped to handle the physical demands of such comedic roles.
If you’ve been considering watching Tommy Boy again to celebrate its 30th anniversary, now is the ideal moment since it’s currently streaming with an AMC+ subscription. For those who want a more nostalgic experience, there’s also a newly released 4K Blu-ray steelbook available for purchase.
