Rob McElhenney Reacts to His Deadpool Cameo Being Confusingly Cut: 'Ryan Wouldnt Do Me Like That'

As a dedicated gamer and avid Marvel fan, I was beyond excited when I heard that Deadpool & Wolverine was finally hitting theaters. The thought of seeing my two favorite anti-heroes sharing the screen together was enough to make my heart race with anticipation. And boy, was it worth the wait!

The following contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine!

The movie titled “Deadpool & Wolverine” boasts multiple appearances of both famous and lesser-known Marvel characters, but surprisingly, a cameo that was previously announced did not make it to the final version of the film. In this action-packed adventure starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, “Deadpool & Wolverine” pays tribute to the Fox’s X-Men series by featuring many unforeseen appearances from adored heroes and actors. The merging of these iconic characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) adds an exciting twist to this film that fans will surely enjoy.

Among many beloved characters gracing the screens and an underappreciated X-Men figure, Ryan Reynolds managed to squeeze in a cameo for his longtime friend and business partner, Rob McElhenney. Known for his role in “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,” McElhenney co-owns Wrexham Football Club with Reynolds. Months prior to the film’s premiere, it was announced that McElhenney would make a cameo appearance. However, upon watching the movie at his local cinema, he discovered his scene had been left out. Taking to Twitter, McElhenney expressed his disappointment.

1. “I traveled an extensive distance of 6,000 miles to make a brief appearance in the movie. Unfortunately, it seems they accidentally left it out during screening. However, I trust Ryan wouldn’t do that to me, so I’m eagerly waiting to watch the film and my cameo again today! #DeadpoolandWolverine”

To avoid leaving his friend in a predicament, Ryan Reynolds quickly reassured McElhenney. He confirmed that his appearance hadn’t been eliminated from the final edit, and he was working diligently to resolve the problem. On social media, Reynolds conveyed this message:

“It was definitely just that one theater and I am looking into this IMMEDIATELY.”

Multiple viewers have also reported that McElhenney’s appearance didn’t get removed from the theater versions of the show, although it could simply be a way to boost his spirits.

Who Does Rob McElhenney Play in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Among the numerous notable faces and unexpected entrances in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Rob McElhenney’s performance is subtly hidden. McElhenney makes an appearance in the film’s initial fight scene, which plays out to the distinct rhythm of the Backstreet Boys’ “BYE BYE BYE.” During this scene, Deadpool savagely dispatches a multitude of TVA agents, pausing intermittently to mimic the music video’s choreography. The outcome for all the adversaries is gruesome, but McElhenney lies concealed beneath the last henchman’s helmet.

Although they own a soccer team in Wales and seem like long-time pals, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have only acted together in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine.” In their personal lives, they gained recognition for the Hulu documentary “Welcome to Wrexham,” which follows their ownership of the club and provides a glimpse into the highs and lows of the beloved sport.

It’s quite unusual that neither actor had appeared in each other’s projects prior to their roles in Deadpool and Wolverine. Now that McElhenney is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, courtesy of Ryan Reynolds, there remains just one more thing they should do: have Ryan Reynolds play an eccentric guest star on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
