RRL and Navajo Artist/Weaver Zefren-M Join Forces For Ralph Lauren’s “Artist In Residence” Program

As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for both fashion and cultural respect, I am thoroughly captivated by this latest collaboration between Ralph Lauren and Navajo artist Zefren-M. Being a lover of games like Red Dead Redemption 2, where the Native American culture is portrayed with authenticity and reverence, it’s refreshing to see such a genuine partnership in real life.

Ralph Lauren unveiled the second installment of their ongoing “Artist in Residence” series – a partnership between RRL and Navajo artist/weaver Zefren-M. This collaboration offers apparel, soft furnishings, and even a floor rug, all showcasing a unique color scheme devised by Zefren-M to pay tribute to the Navajo Nation. Traditional Navajo sewing and weaving methods are skillfully blended with contemporary RRL designs, resulting in a collection that narrates the tribe’s story from a fresh angle.

The collection encompasses items such as a hand-crafted shawl cardigan, RRL’s iconic workshirt, an assortment of bags, and a custom-made rug. The narrative behind this collection is rich, with the chosen color scheme honoring the scenery of the Navajo Nation, while the recurring pattern symbolizes the cycles of life and the weaving techniques that were passed down from Zefren-M’s great-grandmother. Additionally, you’ll find a range of stamped conchos (ornaments) throughout the collection, which feature symbols in tribute to Spider Woman, a significant figure from Navajo folklore who taught the tribe the art of weaving and creating beauty.

For Zefren-M, the past is a rich wellspring of inspiration that permeates both his art and personal style. Working with the RRL team enabled us to craft an exclusive representation of our mutual appreciation for history and tradition, while preserving the tales of the Navajo community.

The Zefren-M and RRL assortment, similar to the extensive 2023 collection by Naiomi Glasses and Polo Ralph Lauren, will carry on the project’s tradition by donating part of its sales to the Lyndon Foundation. This organization is native-led and focuses on preserving traditional skills, crafts, and provides opportunities for Indigenous youth to succeed in artistic careers, as stated in a press release from Ralph Lauren.

The collection will initially be available for purchase at select Ralph Lauren and RRL stores across North America, Europe, and Asia starting from November 7. It will subsequently become accessible on the Ralph Lauren webstore and app within the US and Canada on November 14. The release will expand to e-commerce platforms in China and Japan by November 18.
