As a gamer with memories that stretch back as far as the original release of Rugrats, I must admit my excitement for this upcoming feature adaptation is palpable! With Jason Moore at the helm, a man known not only for his work on Broadway but also for bringing us the hilarious Pitch Perfect trilogy, I’m confident we’re in good hands.
Nickelodeon animation favorite Rugrats is getting new life from Paramount Pictures.
The creative team is working on a live-action/CGI version of an enduring television series titled “Rugrats”. This upcoming movie will be helmed by Jason Moore, known for his work on “Pitch Perfect”. The original series was created by Arlene Klasky, Gábor Csupó and Paul Germain.
On Saturdays, “Saturday Night Live” duo Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell wrote the screenplay for this film. The producers of this project are Klasky, Csupó, and Karen Rosenfelt.
Focusing on the toddler friends Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil, the animated series “Rugrats” first aired in 1991 on Nickelodeon. It continued for nine seasons until its conclusion in 2004. Paramount Pictures premiered the theatrical movie adaptation of “Rugrats,” titled “The Rugrats Movie, in 1998, and this was subsequently followed by two sequels.
Previously, Moore has led movies such as “Pitch Perfect”, “Sisters” and “Shotgun Wedding”. He is also recognized for his work on stage productions like “Shrek the Musical” and “Avenue Q” on Broadway. For the latter, he received a nomination for the Tony Award. Additionally, he has directed episodes of “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill”.
Previously, Day and Seidell had been tasked with revamping an animated series before, as The Hollywood Reporter detailed in 2019, since they were engaged in developing a live-action Inspector Gadget film for Disney at that time. Additionally, they were brought on board to rework a Space Camp remake destined for Disney+.
