The Russo brothers are known for being secretive, having directed films like Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame among other Marvel productions. It seems that the next Avengers film will follow suit as the directors working on the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars keep their upcoming MCU event movies under wraps, much like a Doctor Doom-like veil of mystery.
In a chat with Collider, Anthony and Joe Russo revealed that filming for “Avengers: Doomsday” will kick off in April, signaling the start of a six-month shoot. Given their experience with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the pair are mindful of the spotlight the production will draw as it gears up. To prevent any leaks of spoilers, particularly from paparazzi snapping set photos and offering an unauthorized sneak peek at the film, they’ve devised strategies to maintain secrecy throughout the shoot.
Joe acknowledged that they’re very careful about preventing such incidents, and Anthony agreed, stating they’ve strategized to be as effective as possible. Joe emphasized their desire to prevent leaks of photos, so they’re being quite strict about where they decide to film. Soundstages, which are enclosed within buildings, offer a secure environment hidden from curious onlookers, but even the locations for outdoor shoots have been carefully chosen with discretion in mind.
Marvel Studios Has Fought a Losing Battle With Spoilers in the Past
Marvel Studios frequently struggles to keep franchise secrets hidden, as script leaks, set photo spoilers, and premature disclosures of confidential information have been a persistent issue before major movie launches. A notable instance occurred with the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, where pictures leaked from the set exposed some unexpected cameos in the crowded movie, leading actor Ryan Reynolds to appeal for patience and discretion on social media, a request that was later supported by his co-star, Hugh Jackman.
Wishing that certain websites and social platforms delay sharing pictures until they are fully prepared. We aim to keep the movie experience as delightful as possible, preserving its enchantment for both the final version and the big screen showing. People often share spoilers due to their excitement. I understand these aren’t significant problems in a literal sense, but they fall under the category of ‘nice problems to have.’
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ongoing Multiverse Saga, “Avengers: Doomsday” serves as the opening act of a two-part conclusion, set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. The second installment, titled “Avengers: Secret Wars,” is scheduled for release approximately a year later on May 7, 2027. These films are anticipated to have expansive runtime durations, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the unveiling of many exciting plot twists when they finally make their grand cinematic appearances.
