Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie Trailer Teases NFL Star Travis Kelce

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for unraveling the intricacies of storytelling and performance, I must admit that my eyes were captivated by the trailer for Grotesquerie. The fusion of horror, religion, and a star-studded cast has me eagerly awaiting its September 25th premiere on FX.

Ryan Murphy has released a fresh trailer for the series titled “Grotesquerie,” a hardcore religious horror production that marks the acting debut of an NFL star. In this FX production, Detective Lois Tryon, played by Niecy Nash-Betts, delves into progressively sinister crimes in a tight-knit community. The initial teaser hinted at a foreboding atmosphere against a visually religious setting, but the new trailer introduces the principal cast and also reveals Travis Kelce’s first acting role as part of the ensemble

Before attempting a three-peat with reigning NFL Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, Travis Kelce appears in the Grotesquerie trailer for a few brief moments. The two minutes of footage is filled with religious imagery and intriguing performances, particularly by Micaela Diamond. The cast also features Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Raven Goodwin. Watch the official trailer below:

In a small town, a sequence of disturbing crimes has caused unrest among its residents. Detective Lois Tryon (Nash-Betts) senses an unsettling connection to these crimes, as if they’re meant to provoke her or taunt her. At home, Lois battles personal struggles with her daughter, her husband in critical care, and her own internal conflicts. With no solid leads and unsure of whom to trust, she seeks assistance from Sister Megan (Diamond), a nun who also serves as a journalist for the Catholic Guardian. Despite her own troubled past and encounters with humanity’s dark side, Sister Megan remains optimistic about people’s capacity for kindness. Lois, in contrast, worries that evil is spreading. As they gradually unravel the mysteries behind these crimes, Lois and Sister Megan find themselves entangled in a dangerous web that raises more puzzling questions than it answers

Known as one of the NFL’s top tight ends, Travis Kelce from the Kansas City Chiefs is planning to retire from football in the coming years. To prepare for this transition, he’s pursuing an acting career ahead of time. He has already dabbled in reality TV, such as his dating show “Catching Kelce,” and now aims to become a serious actor. In addition to being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, this is another significant focus for him. After finishing his role in “Grotesquerie,” he has several acting projects lined up, including appearing in the sequel of “Happy Gilmore” and starring as the lead in “Loose Cannons,” an action comedy directed by Chad Stahelski, who is known for the “John Wick” series

At present, Kelce co-hosts a podcast named “New Heights” with his brother Jason Kelce, a highly esteemed former NFL player for the Philadelphia Eagles. In an episode of their podcast (as reported by ABC News), the actor-turned-celebrity talked about landing a job from Ryan Murphy, whom he referred to as an “extraordinary writer, director, and producer.” Kelce did not disclose specifics, but hinted at a significant role and expressed hope that he did the character and entire series proud

“He appeared extremely assured that I could handle it, and his confidence rubbed off on me during our initial talk. Therefore, I hope I won’t disappoint him with my performance.”

Grotesquerie releases on FX on September 25.
