As a lifelong comic book enthusiast who grew up idolizing characters like Deadpool and Wonder Woman, this crossover is nothing short of a dream come true. It’s heartwarming to see these iconic figures unite for such a noble cause, especially during the holiday season. The creative twist on their interaction adds a unique touch that keeps fans engaged while also highlighting the importance of donating to SickKids Foundation.
A surprise Marvel and DC mashup has arrived just in time for the holidays — sort of.
For a special charity event benefiting the SickKids Foundation (also known as The Hospital for Sick Children), Ryan Reynolds once again donned his Deadpool outfit. In this endeavor, he collaborated with Kidpool and enlisted Lynda Carter, famously known as Wonder Woman, to make a guest appearance in the latest video. Previous years have seen appearances by Seth Rogen and Michael Bublé.
In the initial scenes, Deadpool replies, “Doing good is exhausting,” as he climbs aboard a sleigh carrying Kidpool, who enquires, “Where are we heading now?
The rough-talking superhero proposes a plan for the mission. “I suggested we get rid of sick children,” he says, but Kidpool, portrayed by Inez Reynolds, finds this idea highly disturbing. “No, no, no, we’re eradicating the sickness by encouraging people to donate, but we’ll need assistance because you and I are classified as R-rated and these are children who are ill,” he clarifies.
In that instant, a beam of light slices through the scenery, uncovering Carter kneeling in the snow. “Is someone asking for assistance?” queries the actress who was once known for her portrayal of Wonder Woman. “Aren’t you quite extraordinary?” remarks Deadpool, locking eyes with the camera.
Carter promptly queries the duo about their preferences for her actions, and they request that she perform the well-known spin from her television heyday. However, after attempting it, the maneuver doesn’t yield the expected outcome, resulting in Carter donning the same unattractive sweater Reynolds has sported in prior charity videos.
Reynolds expresses his hope that their creative partnership might lead to additional benefits, such as substantial charitable donations for SickKids, a leading organization funding child health research, education, and care in Canada. To boost this philanthropic spirit, Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively have pledged to match every donation up to $500,000 made by December 24th.
