Carpenter expressed, in a statement, how meaningful the holidays have always been to him. He’s thrilled to put his own spin on a traditional holiday variety show, blending his passion for music and humor to create an offering truly reflective of himself.
The Carpenter’s Variety Music Special is set to showcase popular guest stars while the singer performs tunes from her 2023 holiday album titled “Fruitcake,” which gives the special its unique name. Additionally, it will offer covers of classic songs, along with humorous segments and unforeseen appearances as promised by the streaming platform.
From the beginning, it was evident that Sabrina’s mission to reimagine the traditional holiday special was firm, as stated by executive producer and CEO/founder of OBB, Michael D. Ratner, in an official announcement.
2021 has been a fantastic year for me, a 25-year-old pop star, with my album and single from “Short ‘N Sweet” and “Please Please Please” hitting the top spots this summer. My latest track, “Taste,” entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 2 last month and is currently holding strong at No. 6.
A week ago, Carpenter astonished spectators at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a rendition of her summer anthems “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso.” Her performance began dramatically as she descended from the sky on a swing. Upon reaching the stage, Carpenter was subsequently accompanied by an alien and astronaut, who danced together on a lunar-inspired space set. The artist also received the award for song of the year for “Espresso.
The holiday special titled ‘A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter’ was jointly produced by OBB Pictures and At Last Productions. Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, Kfir Goldberg from OBB, along with Bill Perlman and Janelle Lopez Genzink served as executive producers in this production.
The special begins streaming exclusively on Netflix on Dec. 6. at 9 p.m. eastern time.
