As a die-hard theater enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of live performances, I am absolutely thrilled about Sadie Sink‘s return to Broadway! With her impressive resume that spans from Netflix’s Stranger Things to Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale and even Taylor Swift’s All Too Well, it’s clear that she possesses the versatility and talent needed to breathe life into a character like John Proctor.
Sadie Sink will star in the new Broadway play John Proctor Is the Villain this spring.
The play is penned by Kimberly Belflower, who is set to make her Broadway debut and is helmed by Danya Taymor, who bagged a Tony Award for her direction of “The Outsiders”. Notably, Millie Bobby Brown, recognized for her role as Max Mayfield in Netflix’s “Stranger Things”, will star in this production. She has also been seen in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” and Taylor Swift’s short film “All Too Well”. Prior to this, she had a stint on Broadway in the 2012 revival of “Annie”, where she stood in for multiple lead roles and played young Elizabeth in “The Audience”.
The character John Proctor will debut on stage at the Booth Theatre starting March 20, 2025, and the grand opening performance is scheduled for April 14. However, it’s important to note that in this context, John Proctor isn’t necessarily a villain, but rather the protagonist of Arthur Miller’s play “The Crucible.
The play is a comedic production set in a Georgia high school where students are reading “The Crucible” for English class. Instead of focusing on the play’s story, they become engrossed in their personal dramas and romances. However, as the narrative unfolds, they start questioning the portrayal of John Proctor as the hero of the piece.
The creative group comprises scenic design by AMP, with Teresa Williams taking charge; costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, projection design by Hannah Wasileski, direction of movement by Tilly Evans-Krueger, intimacy coordination by Ann James, voice and dialect coaching by Gigi Buffington, and casting duties handled by Taylor Williams.
Sue Wagner, John Johnson and John Mara Jr. are producing.
