Samuel L. Jackson to Be Honored at the Museum of Modern Art’s Annual Film Benefit

As a long-time admirer of the dynamic and captivating performances of Samuel L. Jackson, I am beyond thrilled to hear about his upcoming honor at this year’s Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit. His illustrious career spanning over four decades has left an indelible mark on cinema, from his groundbreaking collaborations with Spike Lee to his iconic role as Jules in “Pulp Fiction.

This year’s Museum of Modern Art Film Benefit, sponsored by Chanel, will feature Samuel L. Jackson as its distinguished guest of honor.

At the upcoming 16th annual event, set in New York City on October 23rd, the actor will be honored. Prior to receiving the award, from October 4th to October 16th, MoMA will showcase “Samuel L. Jackson: A Tribute“, featuring screenings of various films from Jackson’s extensive filmography in the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters. This collection highlights his collaborations with directors such as Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino, his roles as a leading man in movies like “Changing Lanes” (2002) and “187” (1997), and one of his numerous appearances as Nick Fury, in “Captain Marvel” (2019).

Jackson’s most recent movie, a fresh take on August Wilson’s play titled “The Piano Lesson” (2024), helmed by director Malcolm Washington, is set to be shown as part of the series before its theater premiere on Nov. 8 and its Netflix debut on Nov. 22.

Samuel L. Jackson is an iconic cultural figure due to his initial film collaborations with Spike Lee that captivated both spectators and critics, as well as his awe-inspiring portrayal of the shrewd and ruthless assassin Jules in ‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994). Rajendra Roy, the chief curator of film at MoMA, stated this in a press release. Jackson has ties to New York theater, close to MoMA, and we are delighted to have him join us to honor his extraordinary career achievements.

Since 2011, I’ve been proud to support The Museum of Modern Art’s annual Film Benefit as a sponsor, stepping up as the lead film sponsor since 2021. Now, it’s my turn to join an esteemed group of honorees at MoMA, following in the footsteps of cinema greats like Guillermo del Toro, Penélope Cruz, George Clooney, Laura Dern, Martin Scorsese, Julianne Moore, Tom Hanks, Cate Blanchett, Alfonso Cuarón, Tilda Swinton, Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almodóvar, Kathryn Bigelow, Tim Burton, and Baz Luhrmann. What an incredible lineup of talent!
