See A Startled Sabrina Carpenter Realize She Can Curse On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert: ‘Do You Not F—k With The Nog?’

As a long-time fan of Sabrina Carpenter and a regular viewer of late-night talk shows, I must say that the recent interview between Sabrina and Stephen Colbert was nothing short of electrifying. It’s not every day you see a pop sensation with such a raunchy image as Sabrina, who is known for her provocative lyrics and burlesque-inspired performances, having a hearty laugh at the traditionally buttoned-up Stephen Colbert cursing like a sailor.

2022 has been quite a remarkable year for Sabrina Carpenter! She dropped an acclaimed album, shared the stage with Taylor Swift during the Eras Tour, and just got nominated for an impressive six Grammy Awards. The pop sensation is unstoppable and continues to thrive. In between conquering the Billboard charts, she filmed a Netflix holiday special titled “A Nonsense Christmas” which includes famous guest appearances, enchanting duets, and plenty of festive fun. To generate buzz for this special, Carpenter had an engaging conversation with Stephen Colbert, and even the outspoken songwriter was taken aback by being given permission to swear during their chat.

Carpenter and Colbert don’t seem like they have a lot in common, but this interview proved otherwise. When the “Espresso” singer chatted with the host of The Late Show, it was quickly evident that the two had incredible chemistry. They both appreciated each other’s sense of humor, fittingly chugged Espresso martinis, and even enjoyed a second beverage of what appeared to be spiked eggnog.

Espresso is famously Carpenter’s specialty, but with her new special on Netflix’s 2024 schedule and the holiday spirit, she was surprised by how much she enjoyed the eggnog version, to which Colbert replied:

Do you not fuck with the nog? It’s a simple question, Miss. Carpenter!

This incident caused Carpenter to burst out laughing when the usually formal host started swearing and using casual language, as shown earlier. Caught off guard, she admitted that she was shocked she could swear on the late-night television program. She remarked:

Initially, I was advised that backstage, I could use explicit language. However, since I’m accustomed to being cautioned about such behavior, I momentarily forgot. When I stepped onto this stage, it seemed somewhat like a church, which made me say, “I shouldn’t curse, for the Lord is here.” Yet, it appears you’ve just used language that might be inappropriate under these circumstances.

As a gamer, it’s fascinating to think about how shocked Carpenter was back then by the language on that talk show. I mean, when you compare it to the singer’s lyrics, which are notoriously suggestive, seductive, and insanely catchy, it seems like a stark contrast. Plus, her performances, with their hints of burlesque flair, only add to her reputation for pushing boundaries on stage.

Fans have come up with additional sensual dance routines to match her track “Juno,” which is unexpected as it’s already hard to envision the song becoming any more sensual. However, during this performance, Carpenter appeared captivated by the grandiose design of the Ed Sullivan theater and chose to maintain a family-friendly approach for the night.

In this situation, Colbert appeared to converse with Carpenter using terms she was familiar with, which made her feel at ease. Normally, networks forbid profanity or inappropriate language on late-night programs. Yet, muting the host and guest is a convenient workaround that allows for a more authentic conversation.

The entire conversation turned out to be fantastic for TV viewing, and it seemed like they could talk endlessly. Perhaps Stephen Colbert could join Carpenter’s upcoming music video to maintain this wonderful rapport.

To maintain the cheerful and enjoyable mood, you might want to watch Sabrina Carpenter’s Christmas special titled “A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter” on Netflix if you have a subscription.
