The character of Shadow from “Sonic the Hedgehog 4″ might struggle to fit comfortably within the storyline, suggesting there’s a need for a standalone series focusing on Keanu Reeves’ character. The upcoming “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” in 2024 has been the most successful film in the franchise, both critically and commercially. All Sonic films have been box office hits, but the enthusiasm for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” was particularly high due to Shadow’s inclusion, voiced by Reeves. Shadow is arguably one of the best characters from “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” and warrants a dedicated spinoff.
In the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, Shadow is initially portrayed as one of the main antagonists. Yet, by the end, he undergoes a change and aligns with Team Sonic. Remarkably, Shadow bravely sacrifices himself to destroy the Eclipse Cannon, preventing human annihilation. Lucky for us, the closing credits scene of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” hints that Shadow survived the final blast, implying a possible comeback in another film. However, I fervently wish we might see a standalone Shadow movie since he may have a limited role in “Sonic the Hedgehog 4”.
Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Has A Shadow Problem After His Role In Sonic 3
Shadow Is Unlikely To Join Team Sonic In Sonic The Hedgehog 4
Based on the post-credit scene of Sonic 3 and Shadow’s role as a main antagonist in the second movie, followed by Knuckles joining Team Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it seems likely that fans might expect Shadow to have a significant part in the fourth film. Yet, considering Shadow’s character development, it may not align with his role to join Team Sonic in the same way Knuckles did.
Sonic Movies | Worldwide Box Office | RT Critics Score |
---|---|---|
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) | $302,452,077 | 64% |
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) | $403,824,597 | 69% |
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) | $489,906,388 | 85% |
In the world of Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles and Shadow exhibit stark contrasts as characters. Following the events of the second movie, Knuckles yearned for a family, whereas Shadow operates more independently, embodying a lone wolf mentality. Despite his redemption in the third film, it’s unlikely that Shadow will choose to join Team Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Consequently, Shadow might not have as prominent a role in Sonic 4, given he may not frequently interact with the main characters. This is why it would be beneficial for Shadow to star in his own spinoff film, allowing him to take center stage and develop further.
Sonic 4 And Future Sequels Can’t Be All About Shadow (Regardless Of His Popularity)
Shadow Needs To Step Out Of The Spolight In Sonic The Hedgehog 4
Without a doubt, it’s safe to say that apart from the speedy Blue Blur, Shadow is arguably the most beloved character within the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. Originally, Sega hadn’t planned on featuring him in future games following his debut in the 2001 title, “Sonic Adventure 2”. However, the overwhelming fan response to the character led to Shadow becoming a staple of the franchise. This is why fans eagerly awaited his appearance in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, following hints dropped in the post-credits scene of the second movie.
Although Shadow the Hedgehog is a beloved character within the Sonic franchise, future Sonic the Hedgehog movies shouldn’t solely focus on him. In the third film, it seems that Shadow outshines Sonic, but this pattern should not continue in subsequent installments of the series. While Shadow might lend a hand to Team Sonic from time to time in future films, he will probably never become an official member of the team. Given his reduced role in future movies compared to Sonic 3, a standalone Shadow the Hedgehog film appears to be a logical choice.
Shadow Should Have His Own Movie So The Sonic Sequels Can Move On From Him
A Shadow The Hedgehog Spinoff Could Be Amazing
In the game Sonic the Hedgehog 4, it’s important for Shadow to take a backseat so that other characters like Amy Rose can get more attention. But this doesn’t imply that Shadow should be less developed in future Sonic productions. On the contrary, there are many intriguing aspects of Shadow that remain unexplored, such as where exactly in space he resided before landing on Earth.
In the video games, it’s possible that Black Doom, who is Shadow the Hedgehog’s biological father and a significant threat to humanity, could appear in a potential spinoff. This could delve deeper into the cosmic aspects of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. So not only might he play a supporting role in Sonic 4’s story, but I eagerly anticipate Shadow getting his own standalone adventure as well.
