Snow White Smashes Box Office Records Despite Scathing Reviews

The movie adaptation of Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, is facing a challenging financial journey if it hopes to break even during its theatrical release, due to potential controversy that could resemble the infamous poison apple. However, despite this risk, the film has significantly benefited the theater industry by becoming the highest-grossing domestic weekend since late February. Director Marc Webb’s Snow White secured the No. 1 position over the weekend with an estimated $43 million, outperforming every other film in the Top 5 which made less than $4.4 million individually (Black Bag).

Box Office Weekend Totals From Feb. 21-Mar. 23 (Domestic)

  • $75.1 million (Mar. 21-23) *Snow White
  • $51.7 million (Mar. 14-16)
  • $54.9 million (Mar. 7-9)
  • $53.7 million (Feb. 28-Mar. 2)
  • $76.8 million (Feb. 21-23)

The film adaptation of Snow White didn’t get positive reviews from critics, earning just 44% on the Tomatometer based on 180 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences who went to the cinema to watch Zegler as Snow White battling against the Evil Queen (Gadot) seemed to appreciate Disney’s latest cinematic offering. The movie currently has a Popcornmeter rating of 74%, which used to be the RT audience score, and surprisingly, it also received a “B+” CinemaScore despite the controversy.

These three movies are projected to rake in a minimum of $10 million to $15 million in their opening domestic weekends, as per Boxoffice Pro’s prediction.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m all geared up for Jason Statham’s grand comeback on the silver screen! His new flick could potentially rake in an impressive $20 million during its opening weekend. Add to that the much-anticipated ‘Snow White’, along with a few other gems like ‘The Friend’ starring Bill Murray and Naomi Watts, and ‘The Penguin Lessons’, and we’re looking at a powerhouse lineup for the month! While it might not quite reach the $100 million milestone, this stellar quartet is poised to deliver weekends far above the lackluster $50 million weekends that dominated March.
