Over the past nearly ten years, Lewis Pullman launched his acting career by sharing the screen with father Bill Pullman in the western “The Ballad of Lefty Brown”. Since then, he’s paved his own way, featuring in blockbuster films like “Top Gun: Maverick” and Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts”, as well as earning an Emmy nomination for “Lessons in Chemistry”.
Currently, he’s discussing potential roles for a reunion scene with his father on-screen, and there are negotiations underway for him to feature in the upcoming Spaceballs sequel.
In 1987, the older Pullman played the role of a character resembling Han Solo, named Lone Starr, in a movie directed by Mel Brooks. This film is cherished for its humorous references to Star Wars and other classic science fiction themes, including Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
(Note: The original sentence uses the term “riff” which means to imitate or make fun of something in a light-hearted way, but this meaning may not be immediately clear to everyone.)
Amazon Studios, which owns MGM, plans to release the sequel to the movie in theaters in 2027. However, they have not yet shared any information about who will be cast as Pullman.
Josh Greenbaum serves as the director for a screenplay penned by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, who not only wrote it but also takes on the role in front of the camera. Meanwhile, Brooks reprises his character Yogurt, reminiscent of Yoda.
Also expected to return to their roles are Rick Moranis and Daphne Zuniga.
According to reports shared with The Hollywood Reporter, Lewis Pullman is set to portray Starburst, the son of Queen Vespa (Zuniga) and Lone Starr (Bill Pullman). Meanwhile, fresh face Keke Palmer will embody Destiny, another key character in the story. Gad, too, is among the main characters, with all three taking on leading roles.
Although the title, storyline, and additional cast members are being kept secret, this film is being referred to by those who haven’t read the script as ‘A Sequel That Isn’t a Prequel or Reboot (Part 2)’, but it incorporates reboot elements for franchise development.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the dynamic duo of Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody are teaming up with Gad, Brooks, and Greenbaum for this exciting project! Additionally, Kevin Slater, Adam Merims, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez will be taking on executive producer roles. This powerhouse team promises an unforgettable experience!
For years, Pullman had striven to keep his acting career distinct from his personal relationship with his father. However, he has since shifted his perspective. As he shared with THR last month: “I was adamant for a long time about doing this independently, but I’m so grateful that I overcame whatever that was because now it’s such a blessing to be able to collaborate with my father and receive guidance from him.
