As an avid fan, I can’t hide my excitement about the upcoming season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” although I might need to be patient till then. But fear not, after the second season, we can anticipate a fresh season every year! This fantastic series premiered on Disney+ on January 29, and while some were initially hesitant, it didn’t take long for its unique animation style and exceptional writing to win over viewers. The first season has concluded, leaving many of us eagerly awaiting Season 2 of “X-Men ’97.” However, Marvel assures us that the wait for subsequent seasons will be significantly shorter than expected!
In an interview with Collider, the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, expressed their desire to roll out a fresh season of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” annually. Although he suggested that Season 2 might take some time, similar to other streaming animated series, future seasons should follow more quickly. When pressed for details, Winderbaum revealed that the tentative release date for “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2” is after winter in the year 2026.
I’m aiming to make an annual ‘Spider-Man’ series if possible. As you might know, there’s often a larger gap between the first season and the second in animation, and this will likely be true for ‘Friendly’. We may need to wait a bit longer than a year for Season 2, but after that, we hope to release new seasons every year.
One reason why there might not be as big a break between Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 3 and Season 2 is that the animation process for these shows takes a while. While Marvel didn’t immediately approve another batch of episodes after the first season, it was eventually renewed. Since animation is time-consuming, Season 2 started production later. However, since Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 3 was announced before the show even premiered on Disney+, it will allow enough time for its production to be completed exactly a year after the second season airs.
Much like the predicament faced with the show “Invincible”, Prime Video initially commissioned only the first season and decided on renewal after its premiere. Given the labor-intensive animation process, followers had to endure a gap of approximately two and a half years between Season 1 and Season 2. However, subsequent seasons were ordered and produced in quicker succession, placing “Invincible” on a yearly release cycle.
2026 Is a Big Year for Spider-Man and the MCU’s New York-Based Heroes
Looking forward to the potential launch of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2” in 2026 is an exciting prospect, offering a glimpse into Marvel’s plans for that year. This announcement follows news about the upcoming seasons of “Daredevil: Born Again” and a special presentation of “The Punisher,” both slated for Disney+ in 2026. If “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” Season 2 does materialize in 2026, it will coincide with Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man 4.” Given that “Spider-Man 4” is scheduled for July 31, 2026, and Winderbaum hinting at a more than year-long wait before the return of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” it’s possible that Season 2 might air during the fall or holiday season of 2026 to provide some separation from the feature film.

With the season finale leaving numerous possibilities for adversaries and plot twists for Spidey, it’s going to be thrilling! Furthermore, the show will introduce Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen, adding more intrigue to the mix. The endless tales of Spider-Man are yet to be spun across multiple seasons, a luxury that was once a given with weekly television broadcasts, but now feels like a treat in the era of streaming where we wait years for new episodes. However, knowing that Spider-Man will continue to entertain us is reassuring.
