Stephen King's The Long Walk Cast Includes Mark Hamill, Judy Greer and More

As a die-hard Stephen King fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as I watch the latest developments unfold for the long-awaited adaptation of “The Long Walk.” The novel, published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1979, has had quite an interesting production history. With the recent confirmation of Mark Hamill and Judy Greer joining the cast, along with other talented actors, I can’t help but feel that we are finally moving closer to seeing this story come to life on the big screen.

The principal cast for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Long Walk” has been announced. Notable additions include Mark Hamill, known as Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars,” and Judy Greer, who recently appeared in “Halloween” (2018). Other actors joining the project hail from “Alien: Resurrection” and the 2025 version of “The Karate Kid.”

Based on Deadline’s report, the following actors are set to join Hamill and Greer in the new King adaptation: David Jonsson (“Rye Lane,” “Alien: Romulus”), Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza,” “Wildcat”), Charlie Plummer (“The Clovehitch Killer,” “Spontaneous,” “All the Money in the World”), Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”), Ben Wang (“Sight,” 2025’s “Karate Kid”), Garrett Wareing (“Manifest”), and Tut Nyuot (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”).

Stephens King’s novel “The Long Walk,” published under the pen name Richard Bachman in 1979, has a complicated film adaptation history. Several directors such as George A. Romero, Frank Darabont, and André Øvredal have at one point been involved in bringing the story to life on the big screen. However, none of their efforts bore fruit, leading the project to languish in development hell. In November 2023, it was announced that Francis Lawrence would helm the film adaptation, based on a script by JT Mollner. Lawrence is known for directing several installments of “The Hunger Games” franchise, as well as “I Am Legend” and “Constantine.”

In a bleak future, the nation is governed by a tyrannical regime. One of its most popular pastimes is the yearly Long Walk event, where one hundred teenage boys are chosen to partake. Along the country’s roadsides, crowds cheer them on as they march, but they must maintain a pace of four miles per hour or face dire consequences. If their speed drops below this threshold for half a minute, they receive a warning. After three warnings, any subsequent slowdown results in a grisly execution, witnessed by the populace as a gruesome form of entertainment.

The Long Walk is One of Several Upcoming Stephen King Adaptations

Stephen King, renowned for his horror stories, remains as productive as ever, matching his previous pace despite the life-altering incident in 1999. This productivity catches the eye of studios eager to leverage his name and bring both old and new works to the screen. In recent times, viewers have been delighted with an influx of King adaptations such as “The Boogeyman,” “Pet Sematary,” “It,” and “Doctor Sleep,” and this trend is poised to continue with numerous upcoming projects.

As a dedicated Stephen King fan and avid gamer, I can’t contain my excitement as “The Long Walk” is (finally) on its way. However, true-blue fans like me remain cautiously optimistic, holding out for a glimpse – an image, poster, or trailer – to quell our doubts. Until then, we have a plethora of other King adaptations to keep us up at night.
