As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Jesse Armstrong, the mastermind behind the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning show Succession, is all set to step into the director’s chair for the first time with HBO!
Slated for release this coming spring, production on the movie started this month. The storyline focuses on a circle of wealthy companions who convene amidst a global emergency setting. In the ensemble cast of the yet-to-be-titled film, Steve Carrell will play Randall, Jason Schwartzman takes on the role of Hugo Van Yalk (Souper), Cory Michael Smith portrays Venis, and Ramy Youssef assumes the character of Jeff.
Armstrong expressed curiosity about whether working alongside numerous talented actors and directors on ‘Succession’ has had any impact on him. Fingers crossed that it has! He also shared his gratitude towards Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, and the entire HBO team for their unwavering support of this project and for helping assemble a stellar cast and crew, effectively realizing his dream team.
Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President for Programming and Head of Drama Series and Films, expressed her joy about working again with Jesse Armstrong following their successful collaboration on ‘Succession.’ Once more, Armstrong pushes boundaries by offering a daring exploration of contemporary greed, power, and male ambition. Given that this project marks his directorial debut, we anticipate an even greater level of excitement as the story unfolds from the page. We can’t wait to share this timely film with everyone soon.
In collaboration with Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick, Armstrong will be in charge of both writing and directing the project, as well as serving as an executive producer.
Stay tuned for an official trailer and release date.
