As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of comic book-inspired gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest episodes of Superman & Lois have taken the stakes to new heights, making me question whether my heart can truly handle this emotional rollercoaster. The death of our beloved Superman (Clark Kent) and the subsequent torment inflicted upon his family by Lex Luthor has left me reeling, much like a level boss that just won’t go down no matter how many power-ups I collect.
🔮 Heed my words, fellow enthusiasts! If you haven’t watched the thrilling episodes of ‘Superman & Lois’, titled “The End & The Beginning” and “A World Without”, beware! Spoilers lie ahead! 🚫✨
In our previous installment of “Superman & Lois” Season 3, Clark Kent, portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin, and Doomsday were locked in combat on the Moon. Given that fans of the “The Death of Superman” comic series or viewers of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” are aware that Superman versus Doomsday seldom ends positively, this fight was no different. The first two episodes of “Superman & Lois” Season 4 have aired on the 2024 TV schedule, and by the conclusion, it was revealed that Bizarro Superman, previously a resident of Inverse Earth, had killed our beloved Man of Steel.
Of course, since we’re dealing with the series called “Superman & Lois“, the narrative doesn’t stop simply because one character has departed. Instead, Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane finds herself in the crosshairs of Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor, and regrettably, his sons Jonathan and Jordan, portrayed by Michael Bishop and Alex Garfin, have also become targets. After the first two episodes of this series’ final season, which consists of 10 episodes, let’s recap the events that unfolded.
How Superman’s Battle With Doomsday Ended, And How He Lives On In A Different Way
In the opening episode of Season 4 for “Superman & Lois,” titled “The Start and The End,” the narrative constantly alternated between the happenings on Earth and Superman’s intense battle with Doomsday on and around the lunar surface. Clark Kent, as the Man of Steel, displayed no restraint against Lex Luthor’s monstrous creation. He unleashed devastating blows and searing heat vision, but his efforts were ultimately insufficient to defeat this formidable enemy. To add insult to injury, unlike in the traditional “Death of Superman” narrative and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Doomsday did not meet its demise alongside Clark. To make matters even more distressing, Doomsday extracted Clark’s heart to deliver it to Lex Luthor, then carelessly left his lifeless body in the heart of Smallville.
Later on, we’ll delve deeper into the topic of the heart, but for now, let me be upfront: The possibility of Superman being revived this season remains quite high. Given that this is a superhero series, it isn’t entirely unlikely. However, whether or not that occurs, an imprint of Clark’s consciousness persists.
What Lex Luthor Has Planned For Lois Lane And The Massive Secret He’s Discovered
In my recent gaming world, last season, Lex Luthor issued an ultimatum: either Lois Lane stepped away from journalism or face the repercussions, as he believed her Daily Planet reports led to his 17-year imprisonment (knowing well it was a frame-up by Bruno and Peia Mannheim). With his heart set on locating his missing daughter, who’s now in hiding (portrayed by Elizabeth Henstridge from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Lex is determined not to let that quest interfere with his vengeance, causing friction with his longtime ally and current head of LexCorp, Amanda McCoy, played by Yvonne Chapman.
In the final episode of Superman & Lois Season 3, it was revealed that Luthor had his henchmen abduct Sam Lane, thankfully he was saved before asphyxiating in a tomb. However, this was merely the start of the troubles. Luthor has also acquired the hotel opposite the Smallville Gazette, allowing him to monitor Lois while she’s on duty – a very unsettling development. Moreover, it’s not only Lois who finds herself in peril due to her role as their mother; Jordan and Jonathan have also been plunged into danger for reasons beyond that connection.
Through Jordan’s rash action of challenging Lex Luthor while disguised as Superboy, Lex was able to discern his true identity and understand the entire Kent family situation. Given that Luthor blames Lois for their daughter’s relationship falling apart, he views both Jordan and Jonathan as viable targets. This resulted in two particularly disturbing scenes during the Season 4 opener.
Superman And Lois Producer Teases Tom Cavanagh’s Mystery Role
After wrapping up filming on Superman and Lois, I, as a grateful gamer who’s lived vicariously through Lois Lane, wanted to extend a heartfelt farewell to Elizabeth Tulloch. Her portrayal of my favorite journalist has been nothing short of spectacular. Shout-out to James Gunn and Rachel Brosnahan for their exceptional performances that made the set even more dynamic. Here’s to many more memorable moments in our shared fictional universe! 💫📸🌐
Meanwhile, Jonathan was searching Luthor’s hotel for Clark’s heart, while Jordan pursued the same quest elsewhere. As they went, Jonathan heard the heart suddenly begin to beat. However, neither teenager found what they were looking for. Jonathan managed to escape the hotel thanks to Sara’s help, but Jordan fell into a trap and was left incapacitated as Luthor destroyed Clark’s heart. This single opportunity to revive Clark using technology from the Fortress of Solitude was thus lost.
In a dreadful turn of events, Lois received an automated call informing her she had to choose between Jonathan and Jordan, with the grim consequence that both would perish if no decision was made. Baffled about their son’s predicament, Lois chose one of the numbers without knowing its consequences. It seems this choice may lead to complications down the line this season.
And that’s how the first fifth of Superman & Lois’ final season unfolded. Right out the gate, Lex Luthor hasn’t just taken off the kid gloves, he’s incinerated them! Where do things go from here?
