Recently, Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2, but since the initial sneak peek, fans find themselves with more queries than responses.
One key question people have is about the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 upon its release, and Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has given a somewhat indirect response.
How Much is the Nintendo Switch 2 Going to Cost?
During a recent Q&A session for Nintendo’s Q3 earnings (as reported by Video Games Chronicle), Furukawa was questioned about how they plan to adjust pricing for the Switch 2 given the significant changes since the launch of the original Switch, such as Japan’s rising inflation rate and fluctuations in exchange rates with other countries.
Regardless, Furukawa states that they take into account various external elements along with “the affordable pricing that Nintendo consumers typically anticipate.
Initially priced at $299.99 upon its release in 2017, when accounting for inflation, the Nintendo Switch would currently cost approximately $386.25. Therefore, considering this factor, a reasonable price range for the Nintendo Switch 2 might be around that figure.
The Switch 2 was Already Delayed
Initially, Nintendo intended to unveil the Switch 2 in late 2024; however, they opted to postpone its release due to a desire to ensure an ample supply of consoles for launch, a strategy that Sony didn’t consider when launching the PS5.
It’s worth mentioning that the company anticipates some resellers, known as scalpers, may be interested in the Switch 2. Their intentions are unclear, but historically, such measures have been taken to limit the number of consoles a customer can purchase on launch day. However, it didn’t prevent the PS5 from being sold at inflated prices.
Switch 2 Nintendo Direct
Currently, enthusiasts are merely anticipating the upcoming Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2, slated for April 2 at 6:00 AM PT (2:00 PM GMT). This event is rumored to provide a comprehensive overview of the Switch 2, detailing both its features and technical specifications.
As a gamer, I’m super excited about the rumored upgrade to the console, supposedly packing a serious punch compared to the original Switch. Some gamers are even suggesting that the new joy-cons might be convertible into a mouse! If this is true, it could mean that we might finally get to experiment with keyboard and mouse setups on our upcoming Switch 2. Can’t wait to see how this pans out!
Furthermore, while this is merely a guess based on the teaser, given that the Steam Deck exceeds the Switch in terms of computational power, Nintendo may strive to surpass their current performance levels. After all, Nintendo has a reputation for leading the way in technological advancements within gaming, as demonstrated by the success of the Switch and the Wii before it.
Despite the Wii U’s significant setback, Nintendo has consistently proven itself as a reliable name in gaming for more than a hundred years.
Nintendo Direct is set to take place on April 2.
