Hansal Mehta, in a recent chat with The Indian Express, discussed his professional journey, personal experiences, and various aspects of life. During this talk, he also shared insights about composing a lengthy post after watching Taapsee Pannu’s movie, Thappad. When asked why he concluded his blog with an apology to his former wife and other women in his life, the director of Chhalaang explained that such is the impact of quality filmmaking.
He continued by admitting that the movie prompted him to ponder, reflect, and express sentiments he might not have spoken otherwise. “I never thought I’d apologize to my ex-wife,” he admitted, “yet there I was. The film was incredibly impactful, and that’s exactly what great movies accomplish.” The director concluded his statement.
During our chat, Mehta, the director-writer-producer, confessed that he doesn’t recall writing the mentioned blog because his style is more free-flowing and not edited. As a result, he frequently finds grammatical mistakes in his blogs.
In simpler terms, the filmmaker wrote a blog post encouraging people to watch Thappad. At the end of the post, he wrote a heartfelt message dedicated to all the women in his life, including his wife, mother, sister, daughters, ex-wife, girlfriends, and any other women who have been affected by societal conditioning.
In the blog post, Hansal added, “I realize it’s been late. Better late than never, I apologize. I’m sorry if my self-importance has hindered your progress. I’m sorry if my traditional upbringing made me oblivious to your requirements. I’m sorry if I’ve been rude. I’ll make an effort to change. If I don’t, give me a slap. Hit me, please. Sincerely, Hansal. P.S. Don’t forget to watch Thappad.
