As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for both virtual and real-life adventures, I must say that my heart skipped a beat when I stumbled upon the new Tom Wood store within Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo. With a background of exploring countless digital worlds, the merging of Scandinavian and Japanese design references in this physical space instantly resonated with me.
Tom Wood’s retail space has been unveiled at Japan’s Dover Street Market Ginza, situated on the 5th floor. This expansion is an extension of the Norwegian jewelry brand’s growing influence in Japan, coming after the launch of its Tokyo flagship store in Aoyama towards the end of last year.
The interior was crafted by the Tom Wood team based in Norway, blending Scandinavian and Japanese design influences. A stone floor and white walls serve as a base for minimalist and brutalist steel and aluminum details. Along the walls, you’ll find a chrome log display featuring mirrors encircled by logs. The team drew inspiration for these logs from a Norwegian building technique known as “laftwerk,” aiming to recreate the aesthetic of a wooden cabin, which can also be found in Japanese architecture.
Modern jewelry items stand out against their sleek material counterparts, showcased in three large windows with five glass shelves each. The interior is brightened by tall, floor-to-ceiling mirrors that reflect light throughout the space.
“Tom Wood CEO, Morten Isachsen, described this as more than just a shopping area. It’s a tribute to our brand’s evolution, a testament to our passion for artistic creativity, and a pledge to provide jewelry that becomes an integral part of people’s life narratives,” Tom Wood CEO Morten Isachsen explained.
