Sam Elliott is returning to the Sheridan-verse.
The Oscar nominee has been cast in the second season of Paramount+ oil business drama Landman.
Previously, Elliott played a leading role in Taylor Sheridan‘s critically-acclaimed miniseries “1883,” a production that many believe to be the writer-director’s best work on television.
The TV series “Landman” was jointly developed by Christian Wallace, who additionally acts as the showrunner, and is at present being filmed for its second season in Texas.
The second series features Billy Bob Thornton (previously nominated for a Golden Globe in the first season), Demi Moore (promoted to a significant role this season), Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore as part of its cast.

In the second installment, Billy Bob Thornton (a previous Golden Globe nominee), Demi Moore (who takes on a more substantial role this time around), Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore join the ensemble.
The specific duties or character Elliott will assume remain undetermined at this point. However, considering the proposed schedule for the production, it’s plausible that we might see a revival of “Landman” before the current season concludes.
In the final quarter of last year, Landman was listed among the top 10 original series on streaming platforms provided by Paramount+, sharing the spotlight with two other hit dramas from the same studio, namely Tulsa King and Lioness. Notably, it was the most-viewed global debut and conclusion of any series ever aired on Paramount+, and it garnered Thornton a nomination for a Golden Globe award.
The show “Landman” is set in the legendary oil towns of West Texas and tells a contemporary story about chasing wealth within the world of oil drilling. It’s inspired by the well-known 11-part podcast “Boomtown” produced by Imperative Entertainment and “Texas Monthly”. The series unfolds as an upstairs/downstairs narrative, delving into the lives of both hardworking roughnecks and flamboyant oil tycoons who are driving a boom so massive, it’s altering our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.
Sheridan’s lineup for Paramount+ features shows such as “1923,” “1883,” “Lioness,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” and “Tulsa King” along with “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” Interestingly, his original hit series “Yellowstone” can now be found on Peacock.
