As a long-time follower of Korean dramas and a dedicated fan of “Hellbound”, I must say that the anticipation for Season 2 has been nothing short of torment, akin to waiting for my own resurrection! The brief teaser has only fueled my curiosity further, with the focus on Jung’s return to life.
The trailer for Season 2 of “Hellbound” has been unveiled, disclosing its release date as well as a long-anticipated resurrection event that many viewers were eagerly waiting for following the conclusion of the first season. This gripping series, produced by Yeon Sang-ho, is an adaptation of his webtoon with the same title and stands out among Netflix’s Korean dramas as one not primarily centered on romance.
The teaser trailer for the second season has finally arrived, revealing that it will be released on October 25th. Notably, the character of Jung, former chairman of New Truth, who was originally played by Yoo, is now being portrayed by Kim Sung Cheol due to legal complications experienced by Yoo.
The narrative unfolds on an alternate Earth, where enigmatic beings reveal people’s transgressions and pronounce a prophecy of their impending fate. Shortly after the foretold time, these unfortunate souls are inexorably drawn to a dreadful underworld, frequently by entities resembling demons rather than angels, who are more commonly known as “Angels.
The short sneak peek for Hellbound Season 2 focuses heavily on Jung’s return from the dead, leaving us wondering how this event will impact his position within the rapidly changing New Truth group. Although no additional scenes were shown in the trailer, the finale of Season 1 hinted that both organizations, New Truth and Soda, would be at the heart of the storyline for Season 2. The New Truth organization is seen working to conceal the truth from the public, while Soda aims to expose it. Take a look at the teaser below:
What To Expect From Hellbound Season 2
In the first season of Hellbound, Jung, who holds a high position in the New Truth organization that advocates for supernatural entities’ wishes, is given a prophecy about his death twenty years in advance. Instead of revealing this to the world, Jung decides to handle it privately. By Season 2, we see Jung being brought back to life at the very same location where he was once condemned to hell.
One possibility could be: It’s been suggested that Jung’s spirit was reinstated in the world of the living as a form of cosmic equilibrium, given that Young Jae and So Hyun gave up their lives to safeguard their child, who was granted a decree. However, the sequence of events surrounding the couple’s demise is filled with inconsistencies, as Executioners are not supposed to condemn innocent souls to the underworld.
Towards the close of the initial series, the investigators find that the condemned souls’ remains hold signs of living organisms that are inhumane, suggesting they might have been inhabited by something beyond our realm. This raises another intriguing hypothesis: if there is a mastermind behind the prophecy, it could be that they have struck a deal with some supernatural force for global rule. Essentially, those who were sentenced to hell by the Executioners could resurface, but under control of these enigmatic beings aiming for world conquest. However, these are just speculations arising from the finale of the first season.
