As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say that I am genuinely intrigued by Dying Light: The Beast. With Kyle Crane making his grand return, it feels like stepping back into familiar territory while also venturing into uncharted waters. Techland’s optimism about this category of games being the future of gaming is something I can wholeheartedly agree with, given the ever-evolving landscape of the gaming industry.
Story Highlights
- Dying Light: The Beast is an upcoming standalone expansion and a Dying Light spin-off game.
- The director of the series, Tymon Smektała, has expressed his thoughts on standalone titles.
- The idea of a standalone title arose when Dying Light 2’s second DLC leaked online.
I’m really looking forward to playing Dying Light: The Beast – a brand new standalone game and spin-off in the Dying Light series. What makes it even more exciting is that Kyle Crane, the main character from the original game, will be returning. In fact, the developers at Techland seem quite optimistic about it, stating that this type of game could potentially shape the future of gaming.
At this year’s Gamescom, Tymon Smektała, the lead on Dying Light, shared with Gamesindustry.biz the background story of Dying Light: The Beast.
There’s some kind of inertia in the industry and that [obsession] about the number of hours a game can offer. I think it’s actually something that we’ll see more of because the industry will see this as another way they can offer meaningful interactive entertainment to players. This might be a part of the future of games in general.”
Elsewhere, the interview states Techland’s decision to port Dying Light: The Beast to old-gen platforms, specifically the PS4. As a developer, choosing current-gen systems to release your title on is obvious at this point “because that allows you to do more with the game” but what can sometimes matter more is reaching “as many players as possible.”
Furthermore, since numerous owners of the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition still use previous generation consoles, Techland felt it was inappropriate to leave them behind, and justifiably so.
Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition Players Will Get The Beast For Free
If you haven’t heard already, those who possess the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light will receive a free copy of Dying Light: The Beast. This is because Techland agreed to provide two post-launch story DLCs with this edition of the zombie game. One of these DLCs was successfully released, but unfortunately, the other was discontinued during development. As a result, The Beast was born.
Currently, there’s no fixed launch date for the game, but it’s anticipated to become available on platforms such as the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
