As a devoted Star Wars fan who grew up watching the saga unfold on the big screen, I was absolutely thrilled to finally see Darth Plagueis make his long-awaited appearance in The Acolyte. This iconic Sith Lord has been a part of Star Wars lore for decades, and yet we’ve barely scratched the surface of his story.
In the season finale of “The Acolyte,” long-awaited “Star Wars” hints from almost two decades ago were brought to life. The episode primarily concentrated on the new characters introduced in the series and resolved the major plotline. Creator Leslye Headland added a touch of excitement by subtly hinting at the appearance of beloved cameos. Towards the end, an intriguing scene revealed Yoda’s back; however, earlier in the episode, “The Acolyte” introduced a legendary Sith Lord that fans have been eagerly anticipating since “Revenge of the Sith.”
In the Season 1 finale, after Qimir and Osha have completed their training in a hidden cave, they depart to challenge Mae and Jedi Master Sol. Unseen to them, a Munn alien, later identified as the Sith Master Darth Plagueis, remains concealed in the cavern, observing the duo. Introduced for the first time in live action or animation, Plagueis is a significant figure in Star Wars history, having been hinted at in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (released in 2005). Witness this legendary Star Wars antagonist below:
The Stage Is Set for The Acolyte Season 2
In the aftermath of the reveal that “The Acolyte” would unfold during the final stages of the High Republic era, roughly a century prior to “The Phantom Menace,” fans couldn’t help but anticipate the appearance of Darth Plagueis or his master, Darth Tenebrous. However, for an astonishing seven episodes, “The Acolyte” remained steadfast in its mission to broaden the “Star Wars” universe with fresh faces. Instead, its primary antagonist emerged as The Stranger, who was eventually unmasked as Qimir.
In the last episode, we got a glimpse of Darth Plagueis being unveiled in “The Acolyte,” suggesting a more extensive story that creator Leslye Headland intends to explore. Though the show hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet, fans are campaigning with the hashtag #RenewTheAcolyte. The introduction of Darth Plagueis brings potential growth in a possible next installment, as he monitors his apprentice Qimir, who aims to mentor Mae and seize power from him. Since we know that Plagueis won’t die until he accepts Palpatine as an apprentice, this means Qimir is doomed to fail. The intriguing hint of Darth Plagueis in “The Acolyte” sets the stage for a potential second season, providing Star Wars enthusiasts with fresh insights into a character that has puzzled them for almost twenty years.
