The Acolyte’s Manny Jacinto Still Holding Out Hope for Season 2 Despite Cancellation

The Acolyte's Manny Jacinto Still Holding Out Hope for Season 2 Despite Cancellation

As a movie enthusiast who grew up with Star Wars being a staple of my childhood, I must say I am deeply saddened by the cancellation of The Acolyte. Manny Jacinto‘s performance as The Stranger was captivating and unique, a breath of fresh air in the vast Star Wars universe.

Despite recent cancellations, actor Manny Jacinto remains optimistic about a possible second season of Star Wars series The Acolyte. During a chat at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Georgia (as reported by @DigitalLA), when asked about his future aspirations and what he hopes to accomplish before his time is up, Jacinto didn’t hesitate, taking a moment to consider his words before casually stating…

“Season 2 of The Acolyte.”

His answer was met with rapturous cheers and applause from the crowd, who clearly would also love to see the actor and the rest of The Acolyte cast return for more stories in a galaxy far, far away. Set at the end of the High Republic era before the events of the Skywalker Saga, The Acolyte follows a Jedi as he begins to investigates a series of crimes. Jacinto joins the Star Wars franchise as the mysterious antagonist known as The Stranger, and while the series itself was met with some criticism, his performance was universally praised.

Regrettably, although I’ve seen mainly favorable responses from critics and a buzz on social media advocating for Disney+ to bring back #TheAcolyte, the series was unfortunately axed last month due to insufficient viewership numbers. However, I remain optimistic that Disney might reconsider their decision.

It’s conceivable, though not guaranteed, that figures from ‘The Acolyte’, like Jacinto’s Sith master, might reappear in future ‘Star Wars’ productions. In the same vein, fans of The Stranger can hold onto some optimism, as there’s still a chance for their favorite characters to return.

Amandla Stenberg Has Now Responded to the Cancellation & Called Out the Hatred

Similar to the response to many recent Star Wars productions, opinions on the cancelation of The Acolyte have been varied. Some were eager for the daring show to continue its development, while others deemed it a disappointing addition to the franchise since Disney acquired it in 2012. Lead actress Amandla Stenberg has now commented on the studio’s decision not to renew the series for a second season, stating that it wasn’t an unexpected move for her.

“I thought I would get on here, and just speak candidly. I hate doing this. I hate doing this, but I’m gonna do it. I honestly, I don’t use social media very much anymore, and I’m so happy about that, but there are many folks out there that I want to acknowledge and I want to show appreciation and love and support for so that’s why I’m hopping on here to talk about this, which is that our show, our Star Wars show, has been canceled. And I’m gonna say, I’m really transparent, and say that it’s not a huge shock for me.”

The Acolyte faced a wave of negative reviews, orchestrated by a particular segment of the fanbase, that extended to personally attacking the actors on social media. Regrettably, this sort of behavior has become commonplace for Star Wars in recent times. Stenberg condemned the “intense conservatism, bigotry, and vicious rhetoric, prejudice, and offensive language” before expressing appreciation towards those who worked on the show and those who appreciated it.

Regarding that subject, I must express that participating in this universe has been an extraordinary privilege and dream come true for me. Although I’m undeniably disappointed by the show’s cancellation and the fact that we couldn’t provide more for those who care deeply about it, I continue to feel a sense of lightness and happiness. The fact that I was part of this experience, that people adored it, and that they showed such passion and creativity through fan art, ship art, theories, and other expressions fills my heart with joy.
