‘The Bachelor’ Alum Hailey Merkt Dies at 31

As a fan who had the privilege of witnessing Hailey Merkt‘s journey through reality TV, I cannot help but feel deeply saddened by her untimely passing at just 31 years old. Despite her brief stint on The Bachelor, it was Hailey’s indomitable spirit and zest for life that truly captivated us all.

Hailey Merkt, a contestant on The Bachelor’s season 21 trying to win Nick Viall’s affection, tragically passed away due to leukemia at the age of 31.

On a deeply sorrowful note, I’m compelled to express my heartfelt condolences as I share the news of Hailey’s passing. Her personal Instagram account was where we received this tragic update on Tuesday. The message conveyed that our cherished Hailey had lost her battle against life, following a valiant struggle.

The ex-reality television personality was fondly recalled as anything but dull, consistently provoking laughter, and living intensely in the here and now. Hailey’s vibrant essence left a profound impact on numerous lives.

At the conclusion of the post, it was mentioned that the GoFundMe established for Merkt’s cancer treatment expenses will remain active and accepting donations until August 10, 2024, at 12:01 a.m., for those who prefer to extend their support instead of sending flowers.

The updated GoFundMe campaign clarifies that all collected funds will directly assist Hailey’s mother, Michele, to cover the excessive expenses she has been struggling with.

A former Bachelor student had shared updates about her cancer battle on Instagram, providing a peek into her medical journey and daily life at home. In April, Merkt declared on GoFundMe that she was in remission following an experimental stem cell transplant procedure. Nevertheless, as stated by the fundraiser’s organizer Christopher Bennett, six weeks later, Merkt learned that her leukemia had resurfaced and was rapidly spreading.

Reflecting on those moments, I remember her saying, “I no longer care for my own well-being, but I can’t stand causing distress to those I hold dear.” She yearned to savor each remaining moment: cherishing her loved ones, indulging in her passions, and she found joy in the simplest of things. A drink on a patio, basking in the sun, her family and friends, Snuggles, our walks, an orderly closet, crossing off completed tasks on a list, lounging in our favorite park, feeling and looking beautiful – the artistry involved, being beautiful. She was a soul that radiated beauty.
