The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Rumored to Shadow Drop This April

Recent speculations hint that we might get The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion back on the scene earlier than anticipated, breaking one of Bethesda’s long-standing gaming conventions.

According to the most recent data, it seems the remake is indeed happening and is scheduled for release in April 2025 – quite unexpectedly, as there’s been no official word on a pre-launch announcement. This secretive rollout is bound to take everyone by surprise!

On shows like Giant Bomb, Jeff Grubb shared that the remake could potentially drop anytime within this month.

As per Grubb’s statement, it appears that the move by Bethesda and Microsoft to abruptly cancel the release of the game might be a strategic decision, contrasting with the usual approach taken for Elder Scrolls releases.

In other words, all significant and minor Elder Scrolls games, starting from Arena in 1993 and including mobile adaptations such as Blades and Castles, have been officially unveiled prior to their release.

2023 saw whispers about a potential remake when during the Microsoft-FTC court cases, internal Bethesda records showed a planned “Oblivion Remaster” among their upcoming project lineup.

Initially, it was suggested that the project would be a remaster, but subsequent updates indicate that it has grown into a larger-scale remake instead.

Reports indicate that Virtuos, a well-known game support studio with years of experience, is spearheading the game’s development using Unreal Engine 5. At the same time, they are preserving some elements from the original Gamebryo engine.

The latest changes made to the back-end of Oblivion’s Game of the Year Edition on Steam seem to suggest that a new release might be imminent.

On April 3, 2025, the promotional previews for the movie were taken down discreetly, hinting at possible internal plans for a re-release or an updated version.

Although no formal announcement was made, the timing strongly suggests an April release as implied by internal sources. It’s rumored that significant updates will be implemented in the gameplay systems.

New improvements in combat and interface design are being introduced, along with enhancements to elements such as blocking, stealth, and stamina. It’s been suggested that Bethesda might be using The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as a trial run for secretly releasing a high-profile remake.

This version aims to simplify the language while maintaining the original meaning.

Due to its significant fanbase and acclaim, an unexpected launch could still be successful, even with minimal advertising efforts. For instance, less prominent titles such as Hi-Fi Rush demonstrate that this approach can generate substantial interest with limited marketing.

It’s expected that the reboot will come out for both Xbox Series X|S and PC, although the specific platforms have not been officially announced as of now, in line with Microsoft’s typical approach.

Given that Microsoft supports cross-platform launches, it’s not impossible that the games will also be available on PS5 and Switch 2 platforms.

The schedule for April is quite congested as it stands, with a number of big releases scheduled. Apart from South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Forza Horizon 5’s launch on PS5, there isn’t much space left to accommodate additional major announcements.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got a feeling that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion might sneak into our calendars somewhere in May or June, once things simmer down a bit.

Either way, the insiders are convinced: the game is done, and it’s only a matter of time.
