According to HBO’s latest reports, it seems that the highly praised television version of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us may not conclude with Season 3.
In an interview with Deadline, HBO’s Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi hinted at potential future seasons for The Last of Us TV series. She didn’t give a definitive plan but suggested it might span across four seasons. However, she cautioned against taking this as confirmed information, and it seems like we could expect one season followed by two more after that, wrapping up the series.
It appears this method is deliberate, as the rhythm of the video game and TV series vary greatly. The show opts for a softer approach, delving into in-depth character narratives that enhance the well-known figures from the games. Conversely, the original game offers greater player autonomy, enabling them to directly control Ellie and Joel.

In April, the second season of the Emmy-winning post-apocalyptic drama is set to debut, offering seven one-hour episodes brimming with suspenseful storylines involving Ellie, Joel, and a fresh character named Abby. The narrative will delve into the aftermath of the events at Saint Mary’s Hospital, exploring the strained relationship between Ellie and Joel in the wake of that incident.
In a significant role, Kaitlyn Dever (from Booksmart), who plays Abby, will deliver an intriguing portrayal of a character who is both vengeful and conflicted. This depiction should resonate with fans of both the game and show. Although her on-screen character may not be as imposing physically compared to her video game counterpart, she demonstrates a knack for handling a golf club effectively. The scene featuring this golf club will undoubtedly be one of the most suspenseful moments in the game, but we’ll avoid spoiling it here.

The show additionally brings on fresh faces like Beef as Young Mazino, taking on the role of Jesse, a good friend of Ellie and Dina. Meanwhile, the character of Dina, Ellie’s romantic interest, will be brought to life by Isabela Merced, who is recognized for her roles in Dora the Explorer and Alien: Romulus.
If Season 4 signals the conclusion of the series, viewers might notice a more leisurely pacing and a significant change in viewpoint in Season 3, emulating the storytelling method found in video games.
