‘The Old Man’ Canceled After Two Seasons on FX

As a dedicated fan who has followed the captivating journey of Jeff Bridges as “The Old Man,” I must express my disappointment at the news of the series’ premature conclusion. The show, with its intricate plotlines and stellar performances, was a breath of fresh air in the crowded television landscape.

FX has canceled its drama series The Old Man after two seasons.

2022 saw the debut of the TV show where Jeff Bridges plays a former CIA agent who’s coaxed out of retirement, garnering impressive ratings and securing two Emmy nominations – one for Bridges’ outstanding acting and another for exceptional cinematography.

The filming of season two halted during last year’s simultaneous labor disputes, creating a delay of over two years between seasons – this isn’t uncommon for streaming shows but poses challenges for one like The Old Man, which originally aired on FX. Regrettably, the show has been terminated about eight weeks after its season finale aired in late October.

FX declined comment.

The second, and last, season has been nominated for three Critics Choice Awards in January across three categories: best drama series, best performance by an actor in a drama for Bridges, and best supporting actor in a drama for John Lithgow.

Apart from Bridges, Lithgow, and others, the season two lineup also features Alia Shawkat, Amy Brenneman, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Navid Negahban, and Jacqueline Antaramian.

The television series “The Old Man,” derived from Thomas Perry’s novel of the same name, is developed by 20th Television in partnership with The Littlefield Company. The creators are Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine, who also serve as executive producers alongside Warren Littlefield, Dan Shotz, Bridges, David Schiff, and Jon Watts.

Deadline first reported the news.
