And boy, oh boy! The recent revelation that the show is set to start filming a new season next year has sent my excitement levels skyrocketing faster than an M-Class shuttlecraft on overdrive!
Supporters of “The Orville” have experienced an emotional up-and-down journey since the last season premiered, as various speculations and dismal predictions about another season surfaced. Yet, it appears that a ray of optimism from the universe of “The Orville” has recently emerged, hinting at the commencement of fresh episodes in production next year.
As a die-hard fan of “The Orville,” I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for any updates, but there’s been no official word yet from the show’s social media or creator Seth MacFarlane. However, at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, our beloved cast member Scott Grimes let slip an unexpected and thrilling piece of news about the series. As shared by @TrekProfiles on Twitter:
Scott Grimes has announced that the production of the next season for #TheOrville is set to begin following the New Year’s celebrations.
It’s a very positive indication that “The Orville” may not have finished its journey yet, under Disney’s supervision. After their merger with Fox, Disney released Season 3, renamed as “The Orville: New Horizons“, on Hulu in June 2022. Excitingly, it appears that the show is set to return to Hulu for at least another season, following several months of uncertainty.
Seth MacFarlane Has Championed The Orville Season 4 for Two Years
Initially, The Orville started out as an unexpected series, given its origin from the comedic genius who created Family Guy, Ted, and other mature comedy franchises. What followed was a mostly serious science fiction show filled with insightful storylines, thought-provoking social commentary, and a lot of emotional depth. Initially, fans were taken aback, but once the initial surprise subsided, they wholeheartedly embraced the series, propelling it to massive success on Fox Network.
After the premiere of Season 3 on Hulu, MacFarlane expressed his readiness to rejoin the series if given the chance by Disney, stating that he’s eager to carry on with the narrative. Earlier, he had mentioned about a potential continuation:
“I’m really excited about it, and I believe the entire cast shares this sentiment. However, there are many uncertainties surrounding it due to its high production costs and ambitious budget. Yet, when compared to other popular streaming shows, it’s not any more extravagant. Ultimately, the success of our show will hinge on audience reception and discovery. There are still a lot of people who aren’t aware of us or what we do. When viewers finally watch the show, they’re often pleasantly surprised and their expectations are frequently exceeded, perhaps because of my unique style (laughs) or because our work is distinct from what I’ve done in the past. In the end, it’s a business decision, dependent on whether Disney and our platform find us valuable.”
