The PS5 Pro’s Image Enhancement Feature Will Take Your PS4 Games To The Next Level

As a dedicated gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the dark and twisted world of Yharnam, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and frustration at the upcoming release of the PlayStation 5 Pro. On one hand, the promise of enhanced visuals for games like Bloodborne is tantalizing; who wouldn’t want to explore the haunting streets of Yharnam with even more detail and clarity?

Story Highlights

  • The PlayStation 5 Pro is Sony’s answer for a mid-gen hardware refresh for this platform.
  • The console ships with an innate image upscaling feature to enhance PlayStation 4 games.
  • The feature does not improve the performance of said games, however, and is only aesthetic.

The upgraded PlayStation 5 model, boasting several enhancements, will come equipped with a capability to enhance the graphics of PlayStation 4 games. This feature is system-wide, meaning it’s likely to be applied to the majority, if not all, games from the previous console. Furthermore, industry influencer X has shared a comparison between Bloodborne running on the PS5 and the PS5 Pro.

Of course, since the improvement is purely visual, do not expect a performance boost. Bloodborne at 60 FPS is still a dream and will remain a dream for God knows how long until Sony finally decides to do something about it. For now, feel free to head over to Imgsli and observe the before-and-after difference in real-time.

On a separate post on the PlayStation blog, the company’s CEO, Hideaki Nishino, previously confirmed that the upcoming PS5 Pro will indeed offer “Improved Graphics Quality” for certain PlayStation 4 games. It appears that Bloodborne could be one of these titles.

On top of other improvements, there’s the PS5 Pro Game Boost, a feature that can be utilized with over 8,500 backward compatible PlayStation 4 games playable on the PS5 Pro. This functionality might help in maintaining or boosting the performance of both PS4 and PS5 games it supports. Additionally, there’s an Enhanced Graphics Quality for PS4 games to sharpen the resolution on certain PS4 games.

Bloodborne’s Performance Has Always Been A Real Problem

It’s baffling to me how a game like Bloodborne never got its due treatment, not by FromSoftware and definitely not by Sony. Even to this day, the game struggles to maintain a 30 FPS frame rate on the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Now that’s a real shame.

The advanced version of the PlayStation 5, called the PlayStation 5 Pro, is set to be available in November, and it comes with a higher price point of $699. Sony executives view this console as a stronger embodiment of the PlayStation brand than either the standard PS5 or the sleek model; however, given its high cost, there’s a chance that consumers might opt for a different choice.
