The Russo Brothers Reunited With Robert Downey Jr. And Josh Brolin, And The Photo’s Caption Is A+

As a fan who has been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) closely for more than a decade, I must say that the camaraderie between the cast and crew members is one of the most heartwarming aspects of this cinematic journey. The recent reunion of Joe and Anthony Russo with Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, and Donald Mustard at the Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) is a testament to that bond.

Over the last few years, Joe and Anthony Russo have been establishing their unique cinematic path beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it was recently announced that they would rejoin the superhero world to direct the upcoming Avengers films. Although filming hasn’t started yet, the directors recently met up with Robert Downey Jr., who will portray the villain in their future Marvel movies, as well as Thanos actor Josh Brolin. There’s a lovely picture from this encounter, but it’s the caption that really stands out.

Robert Downey Jr., popularly known as RDJ, is starring in the play “McNeal” at the Lincoln Center Theater. The Russo brothers, along with the star of “Sicario” and veteran writer/director Donald Mustard, attended the show over the weekend. The team behind “The Gray Man” posted a photo from their reunion on Instagram, which shows all five men enjoying each other’s company. Have a look at the picture they shared – Downey Jr. also posted it to his Instagram story – and read the excellent caption that accompanies it.

It’s fascinating to contemplate a situation where Doctor Doom and Thanos might stroll into the Lincoln Center Theater in New York City. The image of a towering, purple extraterrestrial mingling with a figure cloaked and masked would undoubtedly be peculiar. I’m not sure if my mind is wandering too far or if I’m concocting a potentially spectacular episode for Marvel’s “What If…?” series. However, let’s move on.

Truly speaking, it’s heartwarming to know that the Russos got to witness their friend and collaborator sharing the stage with Josh Brolin. The team behind Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears quite close-knit, staying in touch even when they’re not working on superhero movies together. For example, the original Avengers cast has a group chat where they’ve chatted about Chris Evans being named Sexiest Man Alive and other topics. Given this camaraderie, it’s really no wonder that this recent meeting at LCT took place.

It seems plausible that the members of the Citadel EP team are excited, given they’re gearing up for a busy period ahead. To begin with, they’re in the initial stages of marketing their upcoming 2025 movie release, Netflix’s science fiction film titled “The Electric State.” This post-apocalyptic action/adventure film features Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Giancarlo Esposito, and others. Once they wrap up this promotional tour, it’s likely that the two brothers will dive headfirst into their commitments within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Russo brothers will direct both “Avengers: Doomsday” slated for 2026 and “Avengers: Secret Wars” set for 2027. At present, specifics about the plots are being guarded, but considering the buzz surrounding these upcoming epic films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), they could significantly contribute to the storyline much like the brothers’ previous Marvel productions – “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” Since Robert Downey Jr. portrays Doctor Doom in those movies, it appears that the two directors will have more collaborations with the Academy Award-winning actor ahead.

It’s not yet certain when the trio along with their team will commence production on their two exciting movies, but I’m thrilled that Robert Downey Jr., the Russos, and Josh Brolin had a casual get-together. Meanwhile, I can’t help but wonder how a performance at the Lincoln Center Theatre might unfold for Doom and Thanos.
