Each decision, every assignment, has led us to this point. Once more, he’s willing to risk his life to save us all in the latest trailer for the upcoming action sequel and franchise finale, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a script he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen, this eighth installment of Mission: Impossible finds Tom Cruise reprising his role as IMF Agent Ethan Hunt. In the movie, Hunt grapples with understanding that our lives are shaped by our decisions as he continues his fight to save us all from a rogue AI called “The Entity”, which was introduced in 2023’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”. ‘The Final Reckoning’ Will Bring Ethan Hunt’s Impossible Mission to an End
As a devoted movie enthusiast, I can honestly say that the “Mission: Impossible” series has been consistently impressive ever since Christopher McQuarrie teamed up with Tom Cruise for the fifth installment, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” back in 2015. Each subsequent film in the franchise has received critical acclaim, with several becoming some of the best action movies ever made. The predecessor to the latest movie, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” was no exception, earning a stellar 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
With such a remarkable track record, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” has some big shoes to fill when it hits US theaters on May 23, 2025. Not only because of its predecessors’ success, but also due to McQuarrie’s promise that the sequel will serve as a fitting conclusion to a 30-year story arc, with the title being “appropriate.” I can hardly wait!
In a thrilling turn of events, the beloved actor Simon Pegg, who graced our screens as a returning star, has gone as far as to proclaim “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” as “the best one yet,” expressing his excitement by saying, “I’ve just finished shooting, I’ve got one day of pick-ups left. I’ve seen some of it. It’s insane. It’s absolutely insane. What he does in this one, it leaves you amazed. I believe this one is the best yet. And I’m not just saying that because it’s like, ‘Oh you’ve got to say it.'” To further fuel the anticipation, another long-standing Mission: Impossible cast member, Ving Rhames, has shared with MovieWeb that this sequel is exceptionally emotional.
I could express it as: “It’s quite emotional, and it gives a deep insight into Tom and me’s relationship.
