The series “Taboo,” a remarkable yet underappreciated production from 2017 by the gifted Steven Knight (known for “Peaky Blinders”), boasted an exceptional ensemble cast, including co-creator Tom Hardy, Leo Bill, Jessie Buckley, Oona Chaplin, Mark Gatiss, Tom Hollander, Stephen Graham, and Jonathan Pryce. Initially, Knight expressed intentions for two additional seasons at the time of its release, but subsequent updates on the show were scarce. However, industry whispers suggested that six episodes were written in 2021, with a second season to follow in 2023. Recently, we’ve received our most substantial update about “Taboo,” and it’s not an April Fool’s prank. Hardy himself confirmed that the script for Season 2 was being penned, and during an interview about his new show “MobLand” with MovieWeb, he shared insights on the delay and why he remains invested in “Taboo.
Hardy explained that he’s been swamped due to his busy schedule over the past eight years. Similarly, the remarkable cast members have also been occupied, with Knight himself being exceptionally productive in the last decade, producing five films and eight TV series (including ‘See’, ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’, and the critically acclaimed ‘A Thousand Blows’). Hardy has been engrossed in ‘The Bikeriders’, ‘Capone’, the upcoming ‘Havoc’, not to mention Sony’s ‘Venom’ series, as well.
Taboo is an activity or project that belongs to me, my family, and Steven. We’ve always wanted to dedicate time to it carefully. For the past seven years, I’ve been engrossed in Venom, which necessitated taking a step back, but it’s something I feel deeply about. When I find the right opportunity to devote myself fully, I plan to revisit and handle it appropriately. It’s never been a question of whether we want to do it; it’s simply a matter of timing and ensuring it’s done right.
Hardy recently chatted with MovieWeb together with the talented Paddy Considine, who appears in MobLand. When we asked if Considine might be part of Taboo’s second season, Hardy replied honestly, “I sure hope so. That would be fantastic.
A Second Season of ‘MobLand’ Already?
Currently, Tom Hardy is both acting in and overseeing the production of the gripping Paramount+ series titled “MobLand”. This show, created by Ronan Bennett, Jez Butterworth, and Guy Ritchie, made a strong debut and has been generating significant buzz. Interestingly, filming for the entire series was completed last Wednesday, March 26, 2025, just four days before its premiere on April 1, 2025 – quite an incredible timing to ponder over! The episodes of “MobLand” are scheduled for weekly release up until June 1, 2025. As we speak, the production team is likely still in post-production or finalizing the last few episodes.
Following the successful premiere of “MobLand”, the creative team swiftly expressed their eagerness for a second installment. Tom Hardy remains optimistic, whereas producer David Glasser from 101 Studios is quite certain about Season 2, stating his confidence in this regard.
Indeed, the same team and cast will return. This includes Guy, as well as directors Anthony Burns. The actors themselves remain the same.
According to MovieWeb’s interview with the cast, they were eager and ready to be part of MobLand Season 2. As long as their characters make it through, of course… Don’t forget to catch MobLand on Paramount+, where a new episode drops every Sunday. You can watch it via the link below:
