As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for music and its various genres, I find myself intrigued by the enigma that is Tommy Richman. The young man has certainly made a splash in the industry with his viral hit “Million Dollar Baby,” which seems to be defying categories and expectations left and right.
Tommy Richman’s popular TikTok track, “Million Dollar Baby,” which held the top spot on Billboard’s R&B chart for the longest time this year, has been nominated in the rap categories for the Grammy Awards.
In the 2025 awards show, Richman’s track “Million Dollar Baby” was put forward for both the best rap song category and the best melodic rap performance award. If it gets nominated for these rap accolades, Richman’s hit would be up against popular tracks such as Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Future, Metro Boomin and Lamar’s collaboration “Like That,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hiss,” 21 Savage’s “Redrum,” GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!”, and the duo of Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s “Carnival.
For 22 consecutive weeks, ‘Million Dollar Baby’ ruled the Hot R&B Songs chart, but last week it was unseated by ‘Timeless’ from The Weeknd and Playboi Carti. Interestingly, Richman’s track held the top spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for three weeks and reached No. 2 on the overall Hot 100 chart.
A spokesperson for Richman failed to respond to an email requesting a comment. Voting for the first round of the 2025 Grammys concluded on Tuesday. The nominees will be revealed on November 8, and final voting takes place from December 12 until January 3. The live event is scheduled to broadcast on February 2 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
DJ Hed recommended that radio stations stop playing Richman’s songs MDB and DIAL since Richman claimed he isn’t a hip hop artist; he said thanks in advance for the heads-up)
As a music enthusiast, I’m grateful for catching the PSA prior to my upcoming radio mix. Now, I find myself with two vacant slots. What tracks should I spin next? On social media, DJ Hed reiterated, “Nobody overshadows the essence of the culture.
Later on, Richman made it clear that he had said: “I’ll repeat, I’m grateful for everything. What I truly mean is that I don’t want to be confined or labeled. Growing up, I was into hip hop music, but fundamentally, I’m a singer.” In another post, he expressed that he meant, “I’m not just a hip hop artist exclusively.
In the same award ceremony, “Million Dollar Baby” was nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, while Richman is a contender for Best New Artist. The competition for this category also includes Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Raye, and Megan Moroney.
Richman might also receive a nomination for the best R&B song, as the 82-second track “Best Time,” which Richman helped create, was put forward in that category. Notably, Richman is signed under Brent Faiyaz’s label, ISO Supremacy.
Richman’s additional hits, namely “Devil is a Lie” and “Thought You Were The One”, have made it to the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. His first album, titled “Coyote“, was launched recently but missed the cut for Grammy consideration this year. It will become eligible for the Grammy Awards in 2026.
