Toyota Reveals Mobility-Focused “Woven City” Project

2025 has brought an exciting turn as I, alongside countless others, eagerly anticipate the unveiling of Toyota’s Woven City – a groundbreaking prototype city. First introduced at CES 2025, this futuristic urban development is poised to push the boundaries in mobility innovation. With Phase 1 construction now completed, we’re one step closer to its official launch, slated for fall 2025. This marks a pivotal moment in Toyota’s transformation into a leading force in mobility solutions!

Situated in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, Woven City was built on the old grounds of Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Plant. Covering approximately 50,000 square meters (12 acres) during its initial development, this city serves as a central hub focusing on human needs. Here, Toyota and their collaborators such as Daikin, NISSIN, and UCC Japan plan to trial groundbreaking technologies in the areas of transportation, energy usage, and daily life.

The Woven City, for the first time in Japan, received Platinum certification under the LEED for Communities program, demonstrating its commitment to eco-friendly urban planning. This city intends to merge cutting-edge technologies in transport, urban living, and sustainability. Commencing in autumn 2025, approximately 100 pioneer residents, mainly from Toyota and Woven by Toyota teams along with their families, will be the first occupants. In the initial phase, the population is projected to reach 360 residents, with potential for growth up to 2,000 inhabitants in subsequent phases.

Starting from the summer of 2025, Woven City won’t just be limited to internal testing; it will also open its doors to outside innovators. This includes startups, entrepreneurs, and academic partners who will join an accelerator program.

Take a closer look at the Woven City in the video by Toyota below.
