Trace Cyrus Says Dad Billy Ray Cyrus Threatened Legal Action Following a Plea for Him to Get Help

On Saturday, Trace Cyrus, Miley’s brother and son of Billy Ray Cyrus, shared on social media that he had requested his father to seek help, which apparently led to a threat of legal action from his dad in response.

Trace expressed, ‘My message was incredibly loving,’ in relation to his January 22nd post about Billy Ray’s well-being. He could’ve been very open about more details, but he didn’t want to make personal matters public like that.

Fan concern rose as the 63-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” singer’s performance was marred by technical difficulties, an uncharacteristically gruff voice, and a hostile demeanor, with some viewers labeling it as a “disaster” and a “train wreck.

In the initial public letter, Trace spoke about his father’s controversial performance at Trump’s inauguration, which had fans concerned after footage emerged showing the “Achy Breaky Heart” artist struggling with a rough voice and displaying aggression following multiple audio technical issues. “If you were open to it, I would be more than happy to lend a hand and offer assistance,” Trace expressed.

On a Saturday, the 35-year-old individual posted that his father had warned him about potential legal consequences for asking for assistance, labeling this act as “shameful.

The letter went on, expressing, ‘Dad is watching over you with deep disapproval that I can vouch for. You ought to feel embarrassed. Though I’ll always have love for you, I no longer hold you in high regard as a man. Those around you are afraid to share their true feelings with you. I am not. Seek help.'”

Or even more concisely:

“The note continued, ‘Dad is disappointed and you should be ashamed. Though he still loves you, he no longer respects you as a man. Those close to you are afraid to tell you the truth, but I will. Get help.’

Apart from Trace, Billy Ray’s ex-wife, Firerose, has also shown worry about the recent incident. In an interview with the New York Post, she stated that what is currently visible in public mirrors much of what she experienced privately during their relationship. She added that it’s sad to see Billy Ray still grappling with similar struggles, but she’s relieved that the truth is being revealed as it’s the first step towards healing. This can only happen when one acknowledges the problem and confronts the truth.

Billy Ray has yet to address his family’s statements directly, however, he did mention the widely-shared performance in a post on his personal social media account.

Billy Ray Cyrus penned a post on his Instagram, where he defended his actions (without directly addressing fan concerns) regarding his performance.

He enjoyed himself tremendously at the Liberty Ball last night and over time, he’s come to understand that when the producer announces ‘you’re on,’ you must entertain the crowd, no matter what technical issues arise. He was there for the people and we had a great time. That’s what rock n roll is all about!”, Cyrus wrote on Instagram. “I wouldn’t have missed the privilege of performing at this event, even if my microphone, guitar, and speakers malfunctioned.
