Tyler, the Creator Taps Ayo Edebiri for “NOID” Visual

As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with over two decades under my belt, I must say that Tyler, the Creator never fails to impress me with his innovative approach to both music videos and sound design. The latest sneak peek into his upcoming project, Chromakopia, has once again proven that he is a maverick in the industry.

Tyler, the Creator has given us another glimpse into his upcoming project called Chromakopia. This project is set to drop on October 28, which coincidentally is also Frank Ocean’s birthday. The tracks that have been previewed from Chromakopia so far include “St. Chroma” and the newly unveiled track titled “NOID.

Similar to “St. Chroma,” “NOID” is currently exclusive to YouTube and hasn’t been distributed on streaming platforms. The video shares a resemblance with “St. Chroma,” depicting the musician as the protagonist, adorning this album’s signature look of a face mask and horned hairstyle. Ayo Edebiri is also part of the video, portraying an obsessive fan who fuels Tyler’s growing paranoia. The visual starts in black and white, transforming to color near the end as the backup vocals come into play.

In terms of its musical tone, “NOID” mirrors feelings of anxiety, with its intensifying, harsh guitars and layered horns. Scattered throughout the track is sampling from Zambian musician, Paul Ngozi, and Tyler lends his voice for a single verse near the center of this approximately three-minute composition.

Tyler expresses his feelings of suspicion in his lyrics, stating “I circle the block with my gaze fixed on the rearview mirror, preferring to retreat rather than hear a gunshot, ‘Pew, pew’. I don’t trust women if they’re good, they can trap you. So it’s wise to be prepared before they unexpectedly overpower and disarm you.

Stream “NOID” in the music video above.
