Occasionally, there are scenes on TV that cause a stir online, either positively or negatively. On other occasions, before social media, a momentous event in a TV show would spread through word of mouth. Regardless of how you learn about it, these scenes leave a lasting impact – here are the unforgettable moments from popular TV shows that have made such an impression.
Oh, and also, spoiler alert for SO many TV shows down below.
The Red Wedding (Game Of Thrones)
As a devoted Game of Thrones fan, I can confidently say that without a doubt, The Red Wedding takes the cake when it comes to the most jaw-dropping moments in the series. This shocking event in Season 3 left an indelible mark on viewers, and as we look back at the show’s finale, there’s no denying that The Red Wedding remains the undisputed leader on the list of most memorable scenes.
Max Somehow Surviving Vecna Through Music And Friends (Stranger Things)
In the summer of 2022, “Running Up That Hill” seemed unavoidable. What a remarkable era! Regardless of where you ventured on social platforms, the conversation was dominated by Max outrunning Vecna in that peculiar alternate dark universe, striving to reach the light of her friends. Oh boy, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
Cassie And Maddy’s Fight (Really That Whole Play) (Euphoria)
Compared to numerous other instances mentioned, this event from Euphoria Season 2 was particularly funny and caused quite the commotion globally. Among the various scenes, none stood out quite like Cassie and Maddy’s brawl on stage during that play. In fact, Lexi’s entire performance sparked a wave of memes and parodies online, making it an unforgettable time indeed.
Wednesday’s Dance (Wednesday)
On Wednesdays, Netflix presents one of the most entertaining shows to watch in a marathon. I bet many of you recall a dance scene from an episode, which wasn’t linked to Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” but went viral online like a wildfire. Now, we can’t seem to get enough of that unforgettable performance.
Hershel’s Death (The Walking Dead)
In The Walking Dead, there have been numerous heart-wrenching deaths, but I believe Hershel’s death ranks among the most impactful. After all, given that the series was known for its unpredictable character eliminations every few episodes, we may have sensed it was imminent. However, despite our expectations, his departure left a lasting impression and sparked numerous discussions among us for quite some time afterwards.
When Joe Kills His Love (You)
One captivating scene from the show “You” that left many speechless for quite some time was when Joe, the protagonist, ended up killing his wife Love. Despite her attempts on his life, fans adored Love because she seemed to complement Joe so well in the series. However, it seems Joe’s emotions overwhelmed him – after all, love can be a complex and unpredictable force, even for characters as intriguing as Joe!
Poussey’s Sudden Death (Orange Is The New Black)
In the hit series “Orange is the New Black,” an exceptionally gifted ensemble of actors captivates viewers, yet one departure that took me by surprise was Samira Wiley’s, whose character, Poussey, tragically met her end during a prison riot in the Season 4 finale. The scene was deeply moving and unexpectedly poignant, making it all the more heart-wrenching—especially given the political turmoil that engulfed the world around that time, amplifying the sorrow.
Villanelle Breaks Into Eve’s House For The First Time (Killing Eve)
In the series “Killing Eve,” the moment when Villanelle infiltrates Eve’s home stands out as particularly impactful. It might not involve grand events, but the palpable tension is so intense that you could almost slice it with a knife. This scene is a prime example of captivating television for the intriguing cat-and-mouse chase between these two characters.
The Opening Scene Of The Boys (The Boys)
It’s clear, really clear, that I adore “The Boys” just as much as any other viewer – it’s no secret why it’s one of the top shows on Amazon Prime. However, there isn’t a more buzz-worthy moment in this series than the very first scene where a character literally disintegrates from within due to a speedster running through them. Ewww!
When We Find Out Who Nell Has Always Been (The Haunting Of Hill House)
For endless discussions, I find Mike Flanagan’s horror series captivating, but “The Haunting of Hill House” holds a special place in my heart due to its enchanting narrative. The scene that left everyone spellbound undeniably occurred when Nell, the youngest child, discovered that the ghostly presence tormenting her throughout her life was none other than herself from the future – the ominous bent-neck lady. Quite a spine-tingling revelation!
Walt Watches Hank Die In The Desert (Breaking Bad)
* “Breaking Bad” is one of the finest television series of the 21st century so far, and there are numerous scenes that stand out. One particularly unforgettable moment is when Walt watches Hank die in the desert during the final episodes; this scene has left a lasting impact on viewers, and it continues to be a popular topic of discussion online. The episode itself, titled “Ozymandias,” is frequently hailed as one of the greatest TV episodes ever made.
When Fonzie Jumped The Shark (Happy Days)
In my humble opinion as a movie enthusiast, I’ve just witnessed a cinematic leap reminiscent of Fonzie’s iconic shark jump from “Happy Days.” The scene was so audacious that it spawned an entire catchphrase: “Oh, this film has jumped the shark!” This phrase symbolizes a moment when a production seems to have exhausted its creative resources, resorting to outlandish plot twists to keep the story afloat. In this case, I must admit, it was nothing short of laugh-out-loud hilarious!
Glenn’s Death (The Walking Dead)
Absolutely, it’s necessary to include Glenn in our discussion. His absence is palpable in any conversation about the show. The death of Glenn, particularly in “The Walking Dead”, was a pivotal moment that caused many fans to stop watching the series. This shocking event left an indelible mark on both the storyline and its viewers, and I daresay, the show never fully recovered from his departure.
Lexi Getting Shot (The 100)
I strongly feel that “The 100” is among the finest shows on CW television. However, I can never forgive it for ending the life of Lexi, an outstanding Grounder commander, especially after her and Clarke had finally formed a bond. The fact that she was killed by a gun makes it even more unforgivable. This act was truly despicable, and many people on the internet shared my sentiment.
Wanda Becoming The Scarlet Witch (WandaVision)
Occasionally, I find myself pondering over the show “WandaVision”, and it seems as if it’s a dream induced by fever due to the intense enthusiasm surrounding it. Naturally, when Wanda transformed into the Scarlet Witch towards the end of the miniseries, revealing her full power, well, we were utterly captivated and couldn’t stop discussing it.
Discovering Who Hodor Really Is (Game Of Thrones)
In the world of ‘Game of Thrones’, Hodor, the affectionate giant who seemed to embody unending love by guarding Bran, was actually harboring a much more troubled past than we initially suspected. The revelation behind his repeated phrase “Hodor” and its connection to Bran and other events, left us all feeling a profound sense of sadness that continues to be a topic of conversation.
Bill And Frank’s Backstory (The Last Of Us)
Being an ardent admirer of “The Last of Us” video games, I strongly object to the significant alteration they made in Bill and Frank’s love story beyond what was depicted in the series. Although their relationship was only hinted at in the game, the romance portrayed on screen stirred a whirlwind on the internet, leaving many in tears for hours – myself included. I can still recall the numerous reaction videos to this heart-wrenching scene.
When Ned Stark Loses His Head (Game Of Thrones)
Undoubtedly, I need to include the beheading of Ned in this list. It’s simply indispensable given its significant impact on TV viewers. You might find it hard to astonish my television-obsessed father, but when Ned lost his head, even he was skeptical for several days until the conversation around it became widespread. Such moments have a unique ability to rearrange your brain’s chemistry.
Walt Watching Jane Die (Breaking Bad)
Oh, “Breaking Bad” – this series has consistently tugged at my heartstrings, regardless of whatever phase of life I was in. Although Jane wasn’t always beneficial for Jesse, and he wasn’t exactly a saint to her either, the scene where she overdoses and Walt stands idle, seemingly unmoved, still resonates deeply within me, knowing the tragic chain of events that followed. It seems most viewers share this emotional response.
Kang Sae-byeok Dies (Squid Game)
When Squid Game premiered, it seemed like everyone and their family were tuning in, and I must admit, character Sae-byeok was everywhere. She was unavoidable. However, the moment that stood out to everyone was when she tragically lost her life near the end, even though she was one of the last three contestants standing – killed by a stab wound no less. To this day, it’s a sad memory for me and many others around the world.
Klaus Kills Jenna (The Vampire Diaries)
At one point, it seemed as if “The Vampire Diaries” was ubiquitous, popping up everywhere I looked. However, one scene that sparked endless conversation among fans was when Klaus killed Jenna to lift a hybrid curse that kept his werewolf side suppressed. The execution of this scene was flawless and certainly ignited discussions online.
Buffy’s Mother Suddenly Dying (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
In the days prior to the internet’s widespread dominance, people managed to discuss a multitude of surprising events, one notable instance being within the TV show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” All at once, without any warning, Buffy’s mother unexpectedly passes away. The event is so shocking it leaves you momentarily stunned, and only after a brief pause do you grasp what has transpired – and this twist became the central topic of conversation surrounding the series.
Finding Out Walt Poisoned Brock (Breaking Bad)
In the TV show “Breaking Bad,” there are numerous moments where it becomes clear that Walter White is a deeply flawed individual. One such instance is when he deliberately poisons Brock, Jesse’s son, to manipulate Jesse. This is particularly evident due to Walt’s knowledge of the Lily-of-the-Valley plant in Jesse’s backyard, which is highly toxic if ingested by children. This action is truly reprehensible and has sparked much discussion among viewers.
Jon Snow’s Death (Game Of Thrones)
For months on end, people were speculating if Jon was indeed alive or had met his end. It seemed almost unbelievable that he could be dead, yet the chatter about him and his whereabouts never ceased. Fortunately, the mystery was cleared up not too long afterwards, but boy, it was quite a buzzing period to be online!
Sybil Passing After Her Daughter’s Birth (Downton Abbey)
It’s truly unfortunate when anyone loses their life during childbirth, as it’s an unfortunate reality that can affect anyone. However, what seems to have made this instance particularly impactful online is the overwhelming sense of sadness that accompanied it. Witnessing someone as their life slips away and realizing there’s nothing you can do – it’s a heart-wrenching experience.
Ted’s First Major Panic Attack (Ted Lasso)
Among the outstanding TV series available on Apple TV+, “Ted Lasso” stands out as a particular favorite, with its lead character, Ted, being particularly endearing. However, our affection for him grew even stronger when we discovered that he struggles with panic attacks, and the first instance of this is witnessed at a club. Surprisingly, Rebecca steps in to console him during this moment. This unexpected scene resonated deeply with viewers worldwide, adding yet another layer to the already exceptional show.
Walt’s Death (Breaking Bad)
It’s no secret that we anticipated Walt’s demise in the final episode of “Breaking Bad”, given his cancer prognosis at the time; however, witnessing his death and collapse was a shock to many, sparking numerous discussions and theories online for hours on end. Spoiler alert: he did indeed pass away.
Jinx And Ekko’s Fight (Arcane)
Netflix hosts some exceptional adult-animated series, and one I can’t help but sing praises for is Arcane. There are numerous standout TV scenes on this platform that deserve recognition, but Jinx and Ekko’s battle truly steals the show. The sheer number of edits, highlights, and clips of this fight, especially from Season 1 on that bridge, have left a lasting impression on me – albeit in a positive manner. Keep discussing it, as I believe it’s worth every word!
Rhaegal’s Death (Game Of Thrones)
I knew that Daenerys’ loss of Viserion would signal the end for their dragons, but seeing Rhaegal impaled in mid-air and plummeting to his demise left me and countless others utterly stunned. Goodness gracious, a heads up would have been appreciated!
The Rumbling (Attack On Titan)
There isn’t another contemporary anime quite like Attack on Titan, in my opinion. It’s hard to find a scene from that show that doesn’t stick with you, but the instant when Eren starts the Rumbling remains particularly impactful for me, as it did for many others. That was the moment we all realized what was coming and the suffering we were about to endure. It still resonates deeply with me today.
Rue Fighting Her Mother And Sister (Euphoria)
Zendaya is an exceptional actress, as demonstrated in Season 2 of Euphoria. Particularly, her scene where she confronts her mother and sister in search of drugs left quite an impression. The intensity and emotion were palpable, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
Rick Is Taken (The Walking Dead)
In Season 9, discussions abounded about the departure of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. However, instead of the show itself, it was Andrew Lincoln who bid farewell to the series in an impressive fashion, leaving us wondering as he was whisked away by one of those enigmatic helicopters. This event, though leading to his spin-off series within The Walking Dead universe later on, remains a topic of conversation among fans.
Which pivotal events will you never forget, moments that shook the foundations of your existence? I can only say I’m eagerly anticipating the next life-altering experience – and the intense emotions that are likely to accompany it.
