As April showers bid farewell, it’s nearly time for the vibrant May blossoms to flourish. Summer is just steps away, and even if the heat already seems unbearable outside, we’ve got you and your kids well-prepared. Since its debut in 2019, Disney+ has garnered a reputation as one of the most comprehensive streaming services available to all ages, offering an abundance of content that caters to both children and adults, with some content appealing to both groups simultaneously.
In May 2025, Disney+ is set to bring more exciting movies your way! Although the number of new additions may be slightly less than normal, there’s still a fantastic selection to discover from recent months. Whether you’re a comic book enthusiast, can’t get enough of Moana, or simply enjoy documentaries, here are the top films coming to Disney+ in May 2025, as well as some great ones to revisit.
‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
Streaming May 1
It’s surprising to know that only one new movie is set to premiere on Disney+ in May 2025, but it’s a blockbuster. With the release of Tom Holland films, the Insomniac video games, and the Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it seems like there has never been a more exciting time for Spider-Man fans. However, few portrayals of the character have captured his greatness quite as brilliantly as the Spider-Verse films, and soon Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream the second installment of the trilogy, titled Across the Spider-Verse.
The movie carries on chronicling Miles Morales’ (Shameik Moore) escapades. In this installment, our protagonist partners up with Gwen Stacy (Haileie Steinfeld) for a multiverse journey, which eventually lands him in a battle against the enigmatic Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) and the amusingly fearsome character known as Spot (Jason Schwartzman).
For quite some time, it’s been widely acclaimed as the beginning of an epic finale for the trilogy. Consequently, it concludes with a massive cliffhanger that has left fans in suspense for years (until recently when Beyond the Spider-Verse was officially slated for release in 2027). Remarkably, this piece remains as inventive and visually stunning as it was two years ago, and it will be available on Disney+ starting May 1.
‘Moana 2’
Still Streaming on Disney+
It’s widely recognized that Moana played a significant role in Disney’s renaissance period, standing out with its breathtaking visuals, enchanting soundtrack, and a protagonist who is often considered among the studio’s finest creations. Given this success, it was only a matter of time before a sequel emerged. And indeed, Moana 2 became an instant box-office hit when it premiered in cinemas during Thanksgiving last year.
Three years following the initial storyline, Moana and Maui embark on an adventure to locate the vanished island of Motufetu, aiming to reinstate its people’s connection with the sea. Although the absence of Lin-Manuel Miranda as the main songwriter is noticeable, the songs may not match up to those in the original, yet Moana remains a captivating protagonist, and the animation continues to impress. Moana 2 made its debut on Disney+ in March 2025, making it an excellent pick for any child who feels drawn to the ocean.
‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip’
Still Streaming on Disney+
If you’ve been having a tough time lately, take solace in knowing that things might not be as awful for you as they are for poor Alexander. The movie Alexander and the Disastrous, Awful, Terrible, Really Bad Journey, a spiritual successor to the 2014 film based on the renowned children’s book, is a testament to that title. This story follows a multigenerational Latino family embarking on a vacation to strengthen their cultural ties, but unfortunately, one mishap after another occurs, making this journey seem more likely to create unpleasant memories than fond ones.
This movie, similar to “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” offers a fun and family-appropriate experience. The main roles are played by Eva Longoria and Jesse Garcia as parents, while Thom Nemer makes his first appearance in a major film as the title character. Originally released on Disney+ in March, given that summer break is approaching, it seems like an ideal moment to catch up with this entertaining production.
‘Pets’
Still Streaming on Disney+
Given her success in crafting tales about charming small beings, particularly through her work on The Mandalorian, it’s now clear in retrospect that Bryce Dallas Howard would delve further into the lives of pets. Her upcoming documentary, titled fittingly Pets, delves into the intricate relationships between animals and people, and how welcoming a pet can influence our emotional well-being.
Delving into various beloved creatures such as cats, dogs, goats, pigs, and birds, Howard masterfully highlights the emotional journeys of pet owners, particularly their children. If you’re seeking a touching film to lift your spirits during these challenging times or simply adore animals, then Pets (which debuted in April) might just be what you need.
