- Engaging turn-based combat
- Unlock cool vampire abilities
- Immersive and expansive 2D world to explore
As a devoted enthusiast of Vampire’s Fall: Origins, I was eagerly anticipating Vampire’s Fall 2. However, I braced myself for potential letdown, knowing that sequels don’t always match up to their predecessors. Frankly, I wasn’t certain if Vampires Fall 2 could maintain the unique mix of gothic fantasy and grim dystopia found in the original game. Fortunately, Early Morning Studio has managed to preserve the essence of Vampire’s Fall Origins while simultaneously broadening the scope of both the world and its mythology.
Just like its precursor, the upcoming game is a 2D turn-based RPG set in a world overrun by vampires. The humans live in perpetual dread under the tyranny of these undead rulers. Initially, you begin as an ordinary villager who gets bitten and transformed into a vampire at the outset of the story.
In Graveholme, your fellow villagers are undeniably suspicious upon seeing you return looking pale, fanged, and bloodthirsty. Yet, there’s an age-old prophecy that hints at a villager transformed into a vampire who will ultimately break the Vampire King’s oppressive rule. And guess what? You seem to be the one the prophecy refers to. Although the concept of the “chosen one” is often used in role-playing games, and Vampire’s Fall: Origins starts with a villager becoming a vampire, the tale remains intriguing and enjoyable.
Sate Your Bloodlust by Completing the Many Side Quests of Vampire’s Fall 2
Beyond the main questline, Vampire’s Fall 2 provides a plethora of side quests that help flesh out the world. You’ll have the opportunity to locate missing villagers, investigate cult rituals, battle epic enemies, and more via the many side quests.
As a gamer diving into this mobile RPG world, I’ve seen my fair share of side quests that might not exactly reinvent the wheel. They bear a striking resemblance to those you’d find in other games of the genre. Yet, there were a handful that left an impression on me, like Darmin’s Corpse and The Naked Man. In Darmin’s Corpse, I was tasked with giving the deceased Darmin a proper burial, while in The Naked Man, I found myself helping a man trapped on a torture device.
Vampire’s Fall 2 Features Epic Turn-based Battles
Before you earn your fangs, you’ll be limited in what skills you can unlock within the skill tree. While you’ll be able to access a spell or two, you will find yourself almost entirely reliant on melee combat early on. Once you turn, however, you’ll be able to unlock lots of cool vampiric abilities, such as Bite, which allows you to steal health from your opponent by drinking their blood.
In this game, each round typically lets you perform a single action such as attacking, retreating, or using an item like a potion. However, every third round is considered a ‘combo round’. During these special rounds, you can execute multiple actions simultaneously if you have sufficient focus points available. You can monitor your upcoming combo round by observing the phases of the moon displayed at the top of the screen during fights. In regular rounds, melee attacks don’t deplete your focus points, but they will consume 20 focus points during a combo round.
If you find yourself facing an overly formidable foe, remember that it’s perfectly acceptable to retreat, leading you back to the last sanctuary you visited. Taking a moment to pay your respects at this sanctuary will restore your vitality to its peak. Additionally, you have the ability to quickly teleport between these sanctuaries, making them quite beneficial. I’d advise you to pause and offer prayers at each one you encounter as a precautionary measure.
Level Up to Unlock New Vampiric Abilities in Vampire’s Fall 2
Upon levelling up, you’ll receive several skill points, which can be spent in the Anger, Control, Vitality, and Deceit skill trees. The vitality tree focuses mainly on improving your character’s chance of survival. Control focuses on learning and enhancing magic spells. Anger is all about dealing as much damage as possible, and Deceit is full of tricks to give you an edge.
Three categories of magic exist: Sacred, Sinister, and Mystical. Sacred magic is potent against vampires; Sinister magic has maximum effect on humans, while Mystical magic functions most effectively on animals and spirits. When allocating skill points, you can determine the type of magic a new ability employs by its background color.
As a magic enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the distinct colors that signify different magical sources in our world. For instance, abilities with a blue backdrop draw their power from arcane magic, making them like intricate tapestries woven from mysterious energy threads. The Ethereal ability, for example, is just such an ability, pulsating with the energy of the arcane.
On the other hand, golden backgrounds suggest Holy magic, a force that brings hope and healing where it’s needed most. If I find myself in need of a healing spell or a powerful buff, I know to look for abilities with this golden hue.
Lastly, there are the abilities with a dark purple backdrop, symbolizing Dark magic. These abilities are as enigmatic as they are potent, their power fueled by the shadows and secrets of our world. The Bat Swarm ability, with its ominous purple glow, is a prime example of this kind of power.
In combat, I’ve found it beneficial to use my abilities against an opponent’s weaknesses. This way, I can exploit their vulnerabilities and ensure a smoother, more successful battle experience for both parties involved.
Vampire’s Fall 2 Doesn’t Disappoint
Much like its predecessor, Vampire’s Fall 2 is an excellent 2D RPG brimming with supernatural enemies. Combat is compelling, and the variety of cool vampire abilities you can unlock keeps it feeling fresh and engaging as you progress. With tons of side quests to complete, a vast kingdom to explore and a prophecy to fulfil, Vampire’s Fall 2 blends all the classic RPG mechanics to create a devilishly enchanting experience you’ll definitely want to sink your teeth (or fangs) into.
