Victoria Justice Reflects on Rocky Horror & Her Favorite Scary Movie

As a die-hard Nickelodeon fan of yore, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of nostalgia when I think about Victoria Justice. From her days as Zoey on “Zoey 101” to her triumphant reign on “Victorious,” she has undeniably left an indelible mark on my generation. But it was her role in the 2016 “Rocky Horror Picture Show” remake that truly sealed the deal for me – a role she landed by sheer force of will and unbridled passion.

Fans of Nickelodeon who grew up during a specific era would likely recall the face of Victoria Justice from nostalgic shows such as “Zoey 101” and “Victorious.” Similar to many of her former cast members, whom Justice claims she still maintains contact with, Justice remains active. This month, a new movie is being released that features Justice delving into the thriller genre, making it perfect for Halloween viewers. MovieWeb had an opportunity to interview Justice about her latest film, “Depravity,” which co-stars seasoned actor Dermot Mulroney. Additionally, she shared insights about other notable roles from her past, like the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” TV event that aired on Fox in 2016. It appears that Justice’s passion for these projects aligns perfectly with a dedicated fan such as herself.

“I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time when I was in fifth grade… and I was like, ‘Whoa, like, this is the weirdest, coolest thing ever,'” she said. “I’d never seen anything like it, and I loved it, and it always kind of just stuck with me… And when I found out that they were doing a remake, I called my agent, and I was like, ‘You need to get me in the room. Like, I will take any part. I need to be a part of this.’ And then I ended up auditioning for Janet.”

Justice commented, “We shot in Toronto alongside Kenny [Ortega] and Laverne [Cox], along with the entire cast. The talent level was off the charts; everyone was incredibly skilled, making it a joyous experience to re-imagine Janet. It was an unforgettable time.

“Getting to recreate ‘Touch Me’ was just like a pinch-me, iconic moment. And also with Lou Adler, who’s such an iconic producer, you know? He had done, like, Carole King’s tapestry, and like, I’m at his incredible home in Malibu, like, with his son, re-recording these iconic songs with everyone. I was like, ‘What is my life right now? This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done.’ It was really nuts.”

What’s Your Favorite Scary Movie?

In keeping with Halloween’s spooky atmosphere, Justice enthusiastically revealed her all-time favorite frightening movie: “The Exorcist”. She recalled, “I watched it for the first time when I was eight years old, thanks to my father. My mom wasn’t too pleased about it… That movie is truly chilling. Even after all these years, I believe it still stands strong as a masterpiece. The craftsmanship is exceptional, making it one of my all-time favorites. Additionally, “The Silence of the Lambs” is another film I adore.

Justice further detailed why The Exorcist was so monumental — and petrifying to her at a young age:

As a young person, the concept of being possessed, especially through a Ouija board, can be absolutely chilling… They did an outstanding job. It felt so authentic, with exceptional performances across the board. However, I must admit that topics related to spiritual or demonic phenomena tend to linger in my mind and give me pause.
