Speaking about upcoming Marvel films, one of the movies generating much anticipation is the next Spider-Man film, now officially titled. Previously, Tom Holland’s Spidey was left as a nobody and street-level vigilante starting over. Many fans have hoped that this fresh start could potentially lead to an encounter between him and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. However, the actor has previously stated that such a meeting is unlikely, and he recently elaborated further on why he feels his villain won’t feature in future MCU films.
To put it straightforwardly, Vincent D’Onofrio didn’t mince words when discussing the possibility of a team-up between his character and Spider-Man. Here is what he shared about this potential collaboration.
I can only confirm that my character isn’t available for use in movies by Marvel at this time. It’s complicated due to ownership issues and rights, which make it difficult for them to use me. At the moment, I can only be featured in television series, not films like a standalone Fisk movie or anything similar. The complications stem from legal matters surrounding the rights.
On Happy Sad Confused, D’Onofrio candidly discussed why it’s unlikely Wilson Fisk will transition from television to the big screen anytime soon. It seems that complex rights issues are holding back the character from making such a leap.
With a Disney+ subscription, you can enjoy the entire journey of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, from his original series Daredevil to his upcoming return in Daredevil: Born Again. This and all other appearances of Kingpin are exclusively available on Disney+. The new ad-supported plan starts at just $9.99 per month, or you can opt for an ad-free experience for $15.99 a month. Additionally, save 16% by pre-paying $159.99 for a year of uninterrupted streaming. Take advantage of this deal now!
It’s unclear what legal constraints may be preventing Kingpin, more specifically Vincent D’Onofrio’s Fisk character, from visiting multiple locations within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the actor himself seems uncertain that such an event will take place.
I don’t know when that would work out, or if it’d ever work out at all actually.
As a devoted admirer of Spider-Man movies, particularly Tom Holland’s portrayal of the Web-Slinger, I’ve been eagerly anticipating his potential appearance in Daredevil: Born Again, given its gritty, street-level setting within the MCU. After all, Charlie Cox made a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, hinting at such a possibility.
However, it’s not as simple as it seems due to the intricate rights issues surrounding Daredevil and Kingpin. Originally, these characters were part of Netflix’s Marvel Universe, but they’ve since been acquired by Disney+ for this upcoming series.
To date, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin character has appeared in the series Hawkeye, Echo, and now Daredevil: Born Again. However, his statements have sparked curiosity about the status of the character’s rights, leaving fans wondering if this situation also applies to Daredevil. This is particularly disappointing for D’Onofrio, who has long expressed a desire for his Kingpin character to interact with Spider-Man on screen.
Absolutely, it can be tricky predicting when you’ll see Marvel actors again since they often take secrecy oaths about future roles. For now, however, keep an eye out for Kingpin in the final two episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again,” airing on the next two Tuesdays. And mark your calendars for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hitting theaters on July 31, 2026.
