Viola Davis Runs the World in G20! You Won’t Believe What Happens Next!

Three years following my coronation as “The Woman King” in the silver screen, the esteemed EGOT performer Viola Davis could be hailed as “The Woman President” this week. It’s unfortunate that the G20 film is making its way to Prime Video because the packed advanced screening I attended at MovieWeb was nothing short of electrifying. The boisterous audience responded enthusiastically to every unexpected plot twist in Viola Davis’ latest leading role, skillfully directed by Patricia Riggen (known for her work on “The 33”). A host of familiar faces graced the film, including a chilling performance from Antony Starr, best recognized as “Homelander” from “The Boys”. Despite a few stumbles and misfits in casting, G20 manages to captivate primarily due to its exhilarating moments outshining its flaws. So, brace yourselves for Viola Davis’ next daring adventure!

Bitcoin Bites

It always helps when your country’s head of state has a military background. In G20,

Previously serving as U.S. President, Danielle Sutton (Davis) now stands at the helm, boasting impressive muscular arms. Davis continues to radiate charm, maintain a witty humor, and exude an overall badass demeanor, particularly in her latest action film. However, some might raise an eyebrow upon learning that Anthony Anderson portrays Danielle’s husband, Derek, in the movie. Although we’ve grown fond of Anderson through his comedic roles on Black-Ish, it seems Davis deserves a more suitable and convincing co-star for her action film, “G20”. Perhaps Tyler Perry or Idris Elba would be better fits. The pairing of Davis and Anderson feels off, especially when Anderson attempts to deliver dramatic lines. Oh well.

Returning to the plot, the family – the parents and their troublemaking genius daughter Serena (portrayed by Marsai Martin) – embark on a journey to South Africa for the conference named after it, which will take place in Johannesburg this November. At this global gathering, world leaders face an unexpected threat from a relentless Bitcoin advocate known as Rutledge (played by Starr). Matters escalate into chaos, but Danielle manages to escape the grasp of the terrorists with the assistance of her trusted security detail, Manny (superbly played by Ramón Rodríguez).

Viola Getting Violent

A handful of prime ministers are secretly meeting with Madam President, including Sabrina Impacciatore from Season 2 of “The White Lotus.” Together, they brainstorm a potential mission to ensure everyone’s safety. However, executing this plan won’t be simple, as Rutledge has an impressive force of mercenaries at his disposal.

Davis’ action skills aren’t immediately apparent, but when they come into play, you’ll find yourself on edge – whether it’s in shoes or slippers since this is a home viewing experience. Meanwhile, Starr immerses himself in the chaotic, villainous character of Rutledge. Using captured footage of global leaders, he creates deepfakes to make it appear as if they are endorsing bitcoin. These manipulated videos are then shared on social media worldwide, luring home viewers into his scam, persuading them to invest in bitcoin, and causing the stock market to crash.

Enthusiasts of contemporary financial transactions are sure to relish following the movie’s primary plotline, while some might express concern about the lack of action-packed scenes involving Davis dispatching adversaries. However, there is indeed action in store – you simply need to be patient and watch it unfold. Starting April 10, 2025, the film G20, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, will become available on Prime Video. Click the link below to catch it when it streams:
