Wait, Did A Marvel Comic Just Reveal What Happened To Scarlet Witch After Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?

Since the conclusion of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in 2022, there’s been confusion about Elizabeth Olsen’s character Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch). In the 28th Marvel movie, it appeared she had died when Mount Wundagore collapsed on her while she was destroying all the Darkhold replicas in the Marvel multiverse. However, there have been whispers for years that we haven’t seen the end of her story. It seems a Marvel comic hints that she might still be alive, though perhaps incapacitated.

Following their prominent roles in “Loki” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”, the Time Variance Authority (TVA), initially introduced to comics in 1986, is now centerstage in a five-issue limited series. Penned by Katharyn Blair and illustrated by Pere Perez, this series delves into a mysterious occurrence called “The Madness” that’s sweeping across the multiverse. References have been made to events from the popular Disney+ TV show and the 2024 film, and characters Mobius and Sylvie, originating from “Loki”, have also made an appearance. It is heavily suggested that these characters are their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts rather than alternative versions.

In TVA episode 3 (as reported by ComicBookMovie), Ghost-Spider, also known as Gwen Stacy, is seen wandering through a peculiar division of the organization titled “Department of Deferment.” Here, she encounters an individual who appears to be Scarlet Witch, who seems to be confined within some sort of suspended animation device. Notably, this character bears the same costume as the MCU’s Scarlet Witch from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and displays the darkened fingers indicative of having handled the Darkhold.

In the world of superhero storytelling, especially in Marvel and DC productions, a character isn’t truly dead unless you actually witness their body. If the Scarlet Witch from TVA is indeed the same one we’ve been watching since 2014 (her debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), it suggests that the TVA took her before she was fatally crushed, and they chose to keep her unconscious. This could explain why no one knew her whereabouts during Agatha All Along, and it would set up an intriguing reappearance for her in Avengers: Doomsday.

To put it simply, even though the Scarlet Witch depicted in the TVA comic book might not be Elizabeth Olsen’s version exactly, it’s likely that we’ll see her character again in an upcoming Marvel film. This is indicated by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, who expressed his eagerness to discover when and how the Scarlet Witch can reappear back in November. Given that such a statement doesn’t seem fitting for a character who’s actually deceased, it makes sense that they might bring her back – particularly in the fifth Avengers movie.

I’m optimistic that the last two episodes of TVA will provide clarity on the Scarlet Witch situation. If not, we’ll simply have to be patient until Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on May 1, 2026, to see if she makes a comeback.
