Warner Bros. Games, a game development studio under Warner Bros. Discovery, is organizing itself around its main intellectual property (IP) series.
Moving ahead, the company intends to prioritize projects like “Harry Potter”, “Game of Thrones”, DC Universe, and “Mortal Kombat”. In addition, they are planning a reorganization that will involve elevating several studio executives.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that I’ll be stepping up as a Senior Vice President at Warner Bros. Games Montréal studio, taking charge of the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones universes, alongside Shaun Himmerick who will also assume the role of Senior VP for NetherRealm Studio, overseeing DC and Mortal Kombat franchises. Meanwhile, Steven Flenory, head of Warner Bros. Games New York studio, has earned a promotion to Senior Vice President, Central Tech & Services, now responsible for game and publishing technology, customer service, quality assurance, and user research. This restructuring promises an even more immersive gaming experience across various beloved franchises!
All three will report to JB Perrette, CEO of global streaming & games for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Our business houses some of the most prominent franchise brands globally, and we’re reorganizing our team setup to create lasting strategies for these franchises, including Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC games. As stated by Perrette, we are blessed with a robust pool of development and technological talent. Yves, Shaun, and Steven are seasoned professionals with outstanding achievements in their respective fields. I’m excited about collaborating with them and the team as we strive to produce top-tier games for our flagship franchises.
The restructuring arises as WBD contemplates dividing into two entities. One entity, headed by David Zaslav, will encompass streaming, studios (including the video game studio), while the other, under Gunnar Weidenfels’ leadership, will manage global linear TV networks separately.
At Warner Bros. film and TV studios, Zaslav emphasizes the importance of main franchise properties as a key focus.
The game development company has achieved notable success in games based on intellectual properties (IP), particularly the 2023 title “Hogwarts Legacy”. While “Mortal Kombat” is an original IP that initially started as a game, it has since grown to include films. A new game based on “Game of Thrones”, titled “Kingsroad”, was recently launched last month.
