Welcome to Plathville” is the latest addition to TLC’s roster of programs featuring traditional families. This series, debuted in 2019, spotlights the Plath family, a conservative religious group residing on a spacious farm in rural Georgia. The couple, Barry and Kim Plath, are proud parents to nine surviving children, tragically losing one, Joshua, at the age of 17 months in 2008. Their family values align with some fundamentalist beliefs, as they choose to homeschool their offspring and, for a period, toured as a musical family band, showcasing their talent across the country.
Similar to other famous TLC families, the Plaths have chosen to reveal all aspects of their lives, from the highs and lows of Barry and Kim’s marriage, the struggles faced by their children in relationships, as well as various other experiences – all while their adult offspring seek their own paths. Some choose to leave immediately, while others decide to stay close and start families of their own. Despite the distances, they reunite for significant events, such as paying respects at Joshua’s grave. Though viewers might wonder if the series portrays staged drama, a concern common with TLC reality shows, the family persists in exposing honest moments from their lives on camera.
Should you be unfamiliar with “Welcome to Plathville” or require a briefing, worry not! We’re here to help. Let me acquaint you with each member of the Plath clan, ranging from Barry and Kim to their numerous offspring.
Barry Plath is the patriarch of the family
Barry Plath serves as the head of the Plath household. He tied the knot with Kim in 1997, but Kim initiated divorce proceedings in 2024 following their separation in 2021. However, they didn’t make their split public until the summer of 2022. With a college degree under his belt, Barry is a transportation planner for a private enterprise, focusing on city transit planning. Furthermore, he leads the family band.
After his divorce, Barry has developed a new pastime: hitting the gym regularly. He’s been using this time to process his emotions about the end of his marriage and improve his physical health. Interestingly, his sons have joined him in this pursuit. In addition, Barry offered support to Ethan during his own marital struggles, and used fitness as a way to bond with his son Micah, who guided Barry through his initial foray into working out. Moreover, he’s been jogging with daughter Moriah, strengthening their bond as well. In the sixth season of “Welcome to Plathville,” multiple members of the Plath family, including Barry, his sons, and his daughter Lydia, took part in a Spartan Race, demonstrating that fitness remains an integral aspect of Barry’s life as he navigates his new identity post-marriage.
Kim Plath is the matriarch
Kim Plath is the mom of the Plath kids. Following her separation from Barry in 2021, she relocated to Florida and sought physical custody of their three youngest offspring. In addition to being a teacher for her homeschooled children, Kim previously practiced as a naturopathic doctor. Notably, she also played the cello in the family band.
During Season 4 of the series, both Kim’s focus on her physical fitness and the portrayal of her separation from Barry began. Nowadays, Kim visits the gym daily, usually in the morning to kickstart her day. She forged a friendship at her local Georgia gym, and they mutually motivate and inspire each other.
Currently, in 2023, Kim has been involved with Ken Palmer, who made his debut on “Welcome to Plathville” during Season 5. Her family holds diverse opinions regarding her new relationship, particularly Ethan, who believes she should abstain from dating until her divorce from Barry is officially completed (a stance he did not take while navigating his own divorce). Upon learning about their mother’s new romance, Moriah and Lydia initially remained silent, taking time to digest the news instead of immediately celebrating.
Ethan Plath is the oldest child
Ethan Plath, born in 1998, is the eldest child of the Plath family. Growing up, he showcased his musical skills on the jazz piano and accordion within their band. In adulthood, Ethan has transitioned into a career as a mechanic, and was the first of the Plath children to get married at age 20, tying the knot with Olivia. However, their perspectives often differed, and regrettably, his mother Kim and Olivia didn’t develop the relationship Ethan had anticipated following the somewhat strained wedding. In an attempt to create distance from family and start anew, the couple decided to relocate from Georgia to Minnesota.
In October 2023, the pair revealed they were parting ways through Instagram posts and officially filed for divorce in February 2024. However, their legal separation had actually occurred eight months earlier in February 2023. Their tumultuous relationship was portrayed in the show, with Ethan expressing optimism about reconciling, while Olivia stood resolute in her decision to end things. The divorce proceedings were concluded in 2024, as depicted in Season 6 of “Welcome to Plathville,” where Ethan signed the necessary paperwork.
Ethan embarked on an adventure across the United States, traveling by motorcycle and chronicling his journey on Instagram. His posts showed him traversing from Minnesota to Maine, then from Maine to California – a coast-to-coast trek. He first shared updates about this trip in July 2024, and confirmed he had reached California by the end of August. In December 2024, Ethan announced he had entered a new romantic relationship. Although his Instagram carousel post didn’t disclose the identity of his girlfriend, it showcased images of them constructing Lego flowers, taking selfies, and casual shots of them traveling together in a vehicle.
Hosanna Plath is the oldest daughter
Hosanna Noble (formerly known as Sylvia Plath), the eldest child of the Plath clan, is the sole sibling who does not feature on the show. Similar to her brother Ethan, she tied the knot at a young age, exchanging vows with Timothy Noble when she was 19. Since then, they’ve settled in Ohio and prefer to maintain a private life. The couple collaborate musically, with Hosanna playing the violin and Timothy on the piano. Additionally, Hosanna has experience playing several instruments within the Plath Family Band, including the banjo, piano, and guitar.
Lydia expressed in a YouTube video that her sisters, Hosanna, Moriah, and Micah, have chosen to live their lives quietly, and she is incredibly proud of them for doing so. She believes it was beneficial for them as a couple to concentrate on their marriage and avoid the limelight, and they remain close with them. The siblings, who don’t get together as frequently as they’d prefer due to distance, show understanding and support for Hosanna’s choice not to be part of the “Welcome to Plathville” series, with Micah even planning a trip to Ohio to visit her.
Micah Plath is a model
Micah Plath, the second-born child in their household, was born in 2001. When the TV show “Welcome to Plathville” debuted in 2019, Micah had just turned 18, allowing the series to document most of his young adulthood. Apart from assisting his dad Barry with gym routines, Micah also models and acts. He spends a significant amount of time enjoying the outdoors, as evident on his Instagram where he shares workout selfies, photos of fishing, kayaking, and family moments. As part of the family band, Micah played both the mandolin and violin.
Initially, Micah departed from the Plath residence and lived with his sister Moriah, both of them striving to adapt to life outside their parents’ influence and establish independence. For a while, he resided in Los Angeles, California, but eventually relocated to Miami. Judging from his Instagram posts, it appears that he frequently reconnects with his family, including spending Labor Day with Barry and his siblings in 2023.
In 2024, Micah was in a relationship with Veronica Peters and they chose to live together in Florida. Veronica works as a real estate agent specializing in luxury properties within Southern Florida, and she’s also appeared on the show “Welcome to Plathville.” Interestingly, she had decided not to join the series initially. However, some fans of the show have speculated that Micah and Veronica may have split up around early 2025 due to noticeable changes in her Instagram posts featuring Micah.
Moriah Plath is the more rebellious child
Moriah Plath is the fourth-born child and second oldest daughter in the Plath household, having been born in 2002. While some viewers might perceive her as twins with Micah due to their proximity in age, it’s important to note that they are separate individuals. Moriah has gained a reputation among the Plaths as somewhat of an outcast, expressing disagreement with how Barry and Kim raised their children. She left the family home at the earliest opportunity and lived with her brother Micah for a while. Despite their differences in opinion regarding upbringing, Moriah and her father Barry have developed a bond through running activities, and she remains connected to her siblings.
In Season 2 of “Welcome to Plathville,” my past with Max Kallschmidt unfolded for viewers. We were together then, but our bond ended when he betrayed me. Since Season 4, Max hasn’t made an appearance in the show, though he pops up occasionally as I reminisce about my life’s twists and turns. As of 2024, I’ve been seeing Matthew Craven again, someone who’s been a part of my rollercoaster romance—and let me tell you, my family isn’t exactly thrilled about it.
Moriah frequently updates her Instagram account, posting significant life events such as her move from Georgia to Montana in January 2025. She also shares images and videos of time spent with family, her beloved dog Blackjack, and her music. It’s no wonder given that she was one of the vocalists for the Plath Family Band; Moriah has already released several singles like “Circus” and “Proud of You.
Lydia Plath is the middle child
2004 marked Lydia Wyse’s (formerly Plath) birth, making her the fifth child and third daughter in her family. On the reality TV show “Welcome to Plathville,” we often saw her assisting her mother Kim with homeschooling her younger siblings during the early seasons. Lydia occasionally challenged her parents’ rules, such as secretly communicating with a boy which her mother disliked. She also contributed to their family band by singing and playing the banjo.
Lydia’s Instagram account is brimming with images showing her exploring various national parks and traveling outdoors. She’s visited places like the Pikes Peak Summit in Colorado, Yosemite National Park, and San Francisco alongside her younger brother Isaac, while other photos display her amidst natural settings without a specific location mentioned. Reminiscent of her sister Moriah, Lydia is also a musician who debuted her first album titled “I’ll Carry You” in the year 2023.
In December 2024, Lydia and Zac Wyse got engaged after being a couple for four months. They had previously shared their relationship status on Instagram the month before, although Lydia had subtly suggested having a boyfriend back in October 2024. The wedding took place on the Plath family property in Georgia in February 2025, with her relatives and parents present. Following their nuptials, they went on a honeymoon through Europe, sharing pictures from Paris online.
Isaac Plath is the youngest son
As a devoted fan, I’d put it this way: I closely follow the life journey of Isaac Plath, the youngest sibling in his family born in 2005. His transformation from teenage years to adulthood was beautifully portrayed in the series “Welcome to Plathville.” Currently, he’s actively involved in farming in Georgia and runs his own lawn care business. Interestingly, Isaac harbors aspirations of becoming a commercial pilot, aiming to secure his pilot’s license and commence work as a private pilot for small aircraft by 2024. This ambition stems from his flying practice and training, some aspects of which he shares on his Instagram. Notably, Isaac collaborated with Kim’s partner Ken at the FL Aviation Center as part of the maintenance team. Looking back, his biography on the old Plath Family website reveals a lifelong fascination with jets, and a penchant for visiting airports.
In February 2025, Isaac was celebrating Valentine’s Day with his girlfriend, sharing well-wishes on Instagram. As of March 2025, she hasn’t been featured on “Welcome to Plathville,” but there’s a possibility that might change when the series returns for its seventh season.
Amber, Cassia, and Mercy Plath are the youngest daughters
The last three siblings in the Plath family are Amber, Cassia, and Mercy. These three were born in the years 2009, 2011, and 2013 respectively. Unlike their older siblings who have personal social media accounts, they don’t have their own but can be seen on their siblings’ pages, such as when they sang a song with Lydia on Instagram.
Amber Plath is becoming more vocal with her views, expressing on “Welcome to Plathville” that she believes Kim, not Barry, should leave the family home as it was Kim who instigated their separation and divorce. Previously on the Plath family website, it’s mentioned that Amber has a strong affinity for mathematics and numbers, frequently working at a level above her grade.
Cassia, who is one of the younger Plath siblings, experienced an incident involving a broken piece of plastic from an outdoor thermometer that harmed her eye when she was only two years old. This resulted in numerous eye surgeries for her. At a point in time, she needed to wear an eyepatch during recovery, as detailed in several posts on the older Plath family blog. Mercy, the youngest of the Plath clan, also features on the series, but given her age, significant storylines have yet to unfold for her, much like her sisters.
